It's a different challenge Pellet Head. Pole feeders, big flat floats and various forms of ledgering as well as feeding decisions. Remember that's the style of fishing we used to do all the time in winter years ago, as long as the river was in its banks. Obviously there are some bad days but often it can be rewarding. I will say the walk was a bit of a mare coming back from the deeps. It was just a mud swamp !! and loads of joggers and mountain bikers sliding everywhere !!!!!

Yes chop worm hero very rewarding catching when it's like that and like you say using methods that don't come into play very often. I grew up fishing the soar then got rail roaded into dark side so it's great to see the very underrated river we are lucky to have fishing aswell as it has this year. We fish canal matches mostly through the winter and they can be bloody hard work. :'(

Joff, the reason I sat on top of the bank was for two reasons. Trying to get into the water was dodgy as where many wye pegs that day. Secondly and unfortunately it was carrying too much water for the float as I did set up a 6 swan speci wag but it was no good ! so feeder it was. The current was quite strong and I needed 3 oz with a massive bow in the line to hold so I figured I needed the clearence of line in the water and be able to cast accurately as no clip would be employed. This was easier to do on top of the bank, I know it would have looked a bit naf on the telly (have not seen it) but thats how it needed to be in my opinion and to be far Colin Harvey came up ( 4 times Wye Champ) and said thats how He would have done it. Must have looked well crabtree !!!!

DIE HARD mate !!simply a Die hard river angler i used to be .I'd of cancelled that round or put it on the canal .Can't see rivers being right for the rest of the season choppy or in future winters.Nobody is interested in clearing the rivers and ditches most parts of the river are shallower due to this and other parts just silted up sad times :-/ :-/ :-/
the levels of sewage that's being pumped in at the moment must be questionable. Apparently when it retches a certain level and speed its a free for all :-/ :-/
