as you know i'm off to holland in a couple of weeks hopefully there will someone with a computer so i can keep in touch
right the canal is 15ft to 20ft deep would you try a slider on the pole or would you just stick to 3 to 5 gram floats
and could someone remind me of how to do the knot

sorry boys it seam strange but in the old days we fished for gobies on a deep stretch of the soar and we made sliders out of big balsa floats the point of this was speed when the depth is over 13ft if you missed a bite the float would settle quicker with one of these slider floats so making it quicker to catch i just thought the same over there i surpose pole floats have changed a lot nowerdays

on your knots , use 2 long ones and better with 0.15 or under line, they can still move a little bit tho' imo but have read today that marking the line with 2 black lines either side of the knots will help hold them in place.
have no knowledge of dutch rivers but seem to recall a vid. of bob nudd catching bream from a deepish river using a sliding polaris pole float, would have thought some rubbers stuck sideways on to stem would achieve a running effect between two spaced micros, as this may assist hooking as you'de be pulling through the line rather than the flow and float, only an idea ,
