Defiantly John Sherwood in middle. Spent many an hour with him on and off the bank.

I remember the first time I fished the Argus Masters final, John Sherwood won it, he was a popular winner down at Evesham, and it was an honour when I won the title a few years later, and was presented with the John Sherwood Trophy along with the Masters trophy also, he knew that stretch of water at Evesham like the back of his hand and knew how to present a stick float.

John Sherwood..John was a very special person to me . At a very early age I think I was 6 years old when my dad introduced me to this guy that most of the time had this very distinctive red hat on, in fact he never was without it ! It was someone who I just took to and him the same and boy at the time only if I had known just how special a person and an angler he really was. John use to pick me up in his iconic bright green reliant robin and travelling to evesham to fish the opens at twyford farm was a very special time for me. I remember I was at school, well I wasn't because I was bunkin off !!! as the matches were on a Wednesday and only recently did my dad find out.. at the draw was Dave Harrell , Jan porter my hero's at the time and John always made me draw for him and I remember one of them saying ,son you are learning from one of the best. Watching him run a stick float on a river was awesome !! no other words to describe it . I watched him fish woodlands view in droitwich when the fishery first opened and he would win on the waggler when everyone was using poles also at moorlands the same. On a canal was no different fishing for roach very special. He would run open matches at Upton Warren gravel pit on a Monday evening and you would have to book in 3 weeks before to get in ,that's when I was in my teens and really started to understand feeding . John would tell me everything. I watched him a million times ,if he was still alive now it would be no different, me still watching him and John still winning !!!
