Hi simps both MGB and I have sets of these, at one time in our early visits to the trent at swarkestone and that area they where all we ever used, and we had some great catches, they are so simple to set up no messing about with shot etc, but I dont think they were for the purists of the day, MGB won our match at evesham a few weeks ago with a NNF that he modified to a slider clever b----r, if you let me know if you are going to fish any of the grueller series i will bring them along to show you.

Yeah, Newark Needle Floats.

If I remember right they were 'free' one week with one of the publications. They were invented by a chap named (the late) Walter Bowers from the then called Manor Fisheries at Muskham, Notts.

They came out right in the middle of the stick float revolution on the River Trent. I fished the Trent all the time in those days and like virtually everyone shunned this new system as a gimmick. It was only when I saw them used properly, with the needles fastened correctly, that they really did work and worked well too.
I think they were balsa, with steel needles and an orange plastic type tip on the top of them with a cutting in to thread the line.

Hi richie i do remember them but never used then i just kept to the wag and stick on the trent has bill says we had some happy matches on the upper and mid trent in them days and on the shropey and trent & mers when you would get 250 to 300 to fish at weston and milford on the cut think them days have gone . that photo of billy makin playing the carp i was pegged 10 pegs away use to travel up north to fish there cuts has they use to come down here and take our money of use them were the days you remeber BIIL

There might be one or two of those stuck in the deepest darkest corner of my tackle cupboard. Dont think they were ever used.

I had some of these, very sensitive.... I wasnt old enough to fish rivers when my grandad bought em for me, and sadly have lost them over the years, had some needle ledger pins too
