Eerrr I think I am missing something here !!! steady up it's a friendly site We were concerned about the venue that was not producing any fish ! For the record I am not a carp head I mainly fish rivers, drains and any other natural venue I can find. I posted this thread as I was concerned over the fishing quality at this time of year and after a match I spoke to Alan Scotthorne about the venue as I mentioned in the post. I do not moan much as I quite like hard venues at this time of year ask anyone who knows me. Also I was prepared to go and fish the venue and try and catch a fish ! I am sorry You have seen it this way but do not abuse the nature of this happy site as We are all friends on here, just a bit of banter.

I'm a moaning carp head but only for reasons such as this, I was born and bread on natural venues and until the last 18months / 2 years I never thought I would ever change but to much of these things happen, the Angling trust just do not listen to the match angler, this venue will never ever be suitable for a team competition at that time of year. The semi final has nothing to do with me as I no longer team fish, however when I read this thread I was concerned that anglers ( many of which I know ) would be travelling miles and spending a fortune on bait / fuel etc and they can not learn anything as it is a lottery at this time of year. I've fished the canal for 30+ years, as a nipper with my old man to div 1 nationals and it doesn't change to much year on year, as I posted earlier in the thread its a shame as a lot of money has been spent and the canal has some excellent sport to be had but later in the year. I haven't heard that the venue has been moved and I wouldn't like to pick a natural venue for that time of year as they can all be up and down, but if it is still on there any team can win it as there wont be a method, the first and main tactic would be to catch a fish and anything else is a double bonusĀ

yes well said richie,i think for the good of match fishing and NATURAL VENUES we dont make matches like semi finals and finals look so dross that we drive even more away or across to the dark side, and as for being a carp head i am a pure blood when it come to natural venues i love my roach fishing and canal fishing is what i love the most,i was over the moon when it was put on the stainy and like iv said iv been up and it looks a cracking venue but theres no fish or not many,iv always looked forward to semis but it needs movng for the good of fishing.

Has anyone else heard it's cancelled ????
Scotty/ Choppy I think it's worth phoning Bob before it's too late . Shakespeare would go for a move by the sounds of it and if all the other teams are prepared to move it's got to be worth a try . I would willingly help Bob rearrange the semi where ever he chooses to put .

I have kept out of this one as I have said my 'piece' many a time with similar situations.
Firstly let's not forget the Angling Trust do some marvellous things but they, like us all, are only human beings and mistakes will occur; after all nobody is perfect.
On the plus side you only have to look at Fish Legal's latest News Release as regards the EA and pollutions, - it really is about time this was brought to light and that can only be a good thing.
On the other hand were we not promised that a balance sheet would be forthcoming from the 2013 Division One National on the T&M? Surely from September to March is long enough time span to produce one!
Winter League - - -
There is no doubt that listening to you guys on this website that everyone, bar none, is unhappy with the S&K Canal for the 2015 WL semi. This is and always will be a problem with lengths of cut where species migrate heavily assumedly on their way to their spawning grounds, - to some extent it happens on a lot of venues.
From the Angling Trust's point of view you can sympathise with the controlling club(s) as will loose revenue which may have been already spent. To counteract this perhaps one of the 2015 WL semi finals should take its place in January, - it may be taking a risk with conditions but after all it is a WINTER League and the fishing should be spot on.
I can only assume thart the Angling Trust has a contest or competitions committee to sort these venues out. Surely if there is a doubt and there obviously is here, why do they not allot a day and go and fish the match lengths themselves? If they armed themselves with all the b & j you lads will need plus other baits, plus travel, plus accommodation, plus pools, plus sustenance, then add on entry fees perhaps they may undestand why the gripes are getting more and more, - it is only natural.
The very basics of any match is surely to catch some fish.
Apologies if anyone else finds this boring because I do.

VERY WELL PUT BILL!!!
problem is we are as much to blame as anglers it seems no one wants to know where their money goes
very few Question it or we would have the answers
Every competition has its cost a simple balance sheet is all thats needed . Anyone fishing the Soar championships at the weekend could see where every penny went and this is not just for the anglers its a piece of mind for the organisers if anyone Questions it
