Well spose I’d better pen a few words for ‘my take’ on the day along with the results for those forumites who didn’t fish the match and any other interested readers………
Entitled
[move]What a lovely day for a Minxing[/move]
My best laid plans to fish the punch and squatt to beat Dodge’s ‘I’ve got the lowest bait bill claim’ were thrown in disarray when Heinzer convinced me on the Saturday morning to part with some hard earned readies - don’t laugh Sprucey - and have 1/2kilo of dendos as these had proved to be the winning bait on our club match down on the cut a couple of weeks ago.
Up bright and breezy - well bright and breezy for me- on the way I took a call off Sprucey
‘Where am ya? - the lanes full of cars’. ‘Be there in a couple of minutes’
Pulling up I jumped out to open the gates…………….
Now was it the or the JINX putting in an early appearance?
The new lock that matched my key was missing from the chain harnessing the gates together and an old rusty lock was in it’s place. I resisted the Chockie Munster’s suggestion ;)to apply the bolt cutters on it…….and redirected the cars on the trip to Wood Lane.
With everyone off on a mystery tour down the lanes I hung around with Heinzer awaiting the last few to turn up.
Arriving at Wood Lane, the pegging was complete with pegs 1-19 to the left of Wood Lane, 20 to 28 on the Common. God somebody was in for a walk down to peg 1, although it was the perceived ‘favoured’ area, just hoped it wasn’t me.
Harry the Hitman was a noticeable absentee…………..where is he I thought and wondered whether it was his car in the canal with the police divers up by the junction with the Extension Canal.
With Simps pockets lined with some bish bosh to help site running costs - cheers guys for your donations - the draw was underway.
My dream peg - shortest walk just to left of Wood Lane - was soon out of my clutch as I scribbled Bill Yards name against it.
The draw enabled me to put faces to the forum names - although I must apologise to Dodge as I initially didn’t recognise him in his sun glasses and tee shirt and minus his winter garb……….
With a couple of short walk pegs still in the bag I plucked out 7…………..aghh….. I hadn’t bought my oxygen tank with me, but the Dickie knee was feeling aok.
Off I trudged - even turning down the Chockie Munsters offer of a lift with my gear and the use of a wheel barrow.
Arriving at peg 7 I was greeted with a real Japanese snipers peg
Looked nice, would either fish its head off or be a ballacher as it was obvious it hadn’t seen any bait this year to date. Hook any beasties and it would be fun and games trying to get them out though.
The off…………two lines of Bill Yards bait were potted in and a chop and caster line. Must remember if I’m gunna fish the chop regularly to get some of those multi bladed thingies - took me ages to chop em up with a single blade.
A few indications on the white stuff on the inside, but they wernt reaaly having it, just pecking at it. A couple of small skimmers soon saw me avoiding the dreaded DNW, but a couple also slipped the barbless hook due to the awkwardness of the peg so that was soon changed.
Time drifted on and news filtered of a few anglers with solitary tench and a couple lost - nobody was really setting the world on fire.
Because of those solitary tench, with bites at a premium as the sun beat down and with Wezza to my right also struggling I elected to chase a couple of tinca on the chop.
Only it didn’t happen with only a couple of small stripeys having a peck. I’m under pressure as I’ve heard The Minx has got a ‘skimmer’ who weight varies from 6oz to 1.5lb dependent on who tells the story. I need a tinca or two to snaffle my worm
45 mins to go and Wezza blows me away finally hooking and landing a tinca that he reckons goes 3lb plus………I’m battered both sides now as Poolsfodder to my left snared a 4lb’er early on in the match
During the match I’ve heard plenty of peals of laughter and banter from Joffie and crew out of sight down on the wides……..with about 20 mins to go, the cries go up again - somebody’s hooked summat decent - now who could that be conjuring up a Houdini act to get out of jail
I’ve been watching those clouds coming over - the Barbie outside is at risk, JK will have to use the cooker inside at the club…………because true to form, Heinzer blows up and within a minute the JINX strikes again as it chucks it down to pack up in
Anyway onto the tale of the scales and who got MINXED from where……….

here we go just a few photos of my epic battle with budgie who i had called sprucy all day no wonder i had some funny looks
i drew peg 5 just down from the wides nice looking peg :-/still they all looked good
to my right was poolfoder and left was budgie
after a hour poolfodder had caught a tench and by the looks of his peg he was going to catch another but as we know a early lead doesn't mean much ask the England squad
after two hours and a handful of Rudd and small perch i started to think the worest and when i looked up to see this
i wondered was it a snag, had budgie had enough and was about to throw himself in NO it was a fish this fish
just look at that smile and adding another a hour later really put me under pressure it was down to plan Z
with half a hour to go i put on a couple of lively red-worms tipped with a red maggot for that special presentation out it went and straight away a small perch not what i wanted so this i put the good old double caster on this time it berried and with a few nerves it was netted a 4lb tench hows your luck ::) ::)
before i could get the same presentation again the whistle went as i looked up at budgie is face said it all sprucy was on peg two and not a happy bunnie as he knew what he was sitting on
and after he had sorted malc out saying it was his fault it had fished sh#t poor old malc :-[just laugh at him
sprucys fish
his face said it all
next him was mr mosselle
and then budgie who must of had more fish than the rest of the section put together [pitty he couldn't catch tench ]well fished
thats it for my photos its over to bill after my peg

Like joff has said earlier this match was a nice change for me aswell from the usual intensity of open / team fishing
A big thanks to TK for the thankless task of organising yesterday luvly bit of canal , i walked with Sprucey and Bill when they pegged it out and loads of fish large and small were either blowing or topping guess if it had been overcast all day we all would have caught a few more but we cant have everything
Chopworm & caster fished on two lines caught me nearly all my fish including a 2 1/2lb tench ...... a bigger one saw me off on proper gear in the pads which could of been a match winner ::) I nearly nodded off at around 2pm , i was proper koofed after getting up at 5.15 am
Sorry i didnt go back to the social club after the match as its a long old drive up the M6 back to Manchester after a long day ....... we rarely go back for a drink on lee,s matches
Great bunch of lads and lasses thanx for a top day

Nice to see Keef doing the old Starlets trick and covering it in gravel so it weighs more .
Ps sounds as though you all had a good day.
