Unlucky pete, it was a very strong semi line up for the venue. Lance told me North west had a brilliant draw?! Any of the lads do any good individually? :)

Ian Phillips was just beaten for his section by Stu Conroy and he was our best scorer.

We had a few that did ok Mick Hitchen 16 kilos odd.

I had just under 17 kilos but had some awesome pegs in my section. If Joff had seen it he would have taken a photo  :o

Imagine pegs 10 feet apart and poles criss crossing behind you it was unbelievable.Having said that the place is full of all sorts.

Our problem is we fish natural venues and are way out of touch Image

I was given a load of crappity smacking pellets of all shapes and sizes but caught on the old favourite. CHOPPY Image

Good luck on the Stainy Image

Off to Bottesford tomorrow.

Now if you hook a Tench there all hell breaks out :o

These commercial fish only seem to fight by your feet and what is it when pound and a half Bream think they are Marlin when they get hooked Image

First Southern Semi Final Gloucester Canal - canal fished really well, 2 section prizes in each section all went to double figure weights, 30lb won match Eddie Warren Starlets. On team front, it fished to expected form, Starlets and Gordon League continued their tussle this time Starlets took it 25pts to 29pts, really powerful performance on the day their hard woirk meant that they were more in touch with venue than Daiwa Gordon League. Third qualifier Milo Borden - WHAT A VENUE!!

From the garbled text I've just had, the top 6 in today's semi-final on the Stainy were:

1 Barnsley
2 Saints
3 Shakespeare
4 Hotrods
5 Trentmen
6 Sams Tackle

Sorry - that's all I got & I was doing well to understand that much...

Was hard today !, Well done to Barnsley who proved too good on the day and easily won.
Very close after with only 1 point between us and Saints, then only 1 point between us and hotrods !!
Hard Luck to Trentmen who put plenty of time in on the venue.

Angling Trust Winter League Southern Semi Final - Kennet & Avon Canal - Sunday 1st April 2012
Match Report
A hard overnight frost and bright sunshine led to a very slow start for the 90 competitors on the Angling Trust Winter League second Southern Semi Final on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Marlborough on Sunday 1st April 2012.
It took a few boats to stir things up and get the fish moving and for the last 3 hours of the match it was a fish a chuck for most with some fabulous nets of fish bought to the scales. The anglers averaged over 7lb a man and the top 22 anglers all had over 10lb, fantastic weights for a small canal. But the day was all about the teams, and again the favourites won through, Daiwa Dorking stormed through to the final, 4 section wins and no one finishing below fourth saw them drop only 15 points giving them a 75 point total. Maver Image were best of the rest with 58 points, and joining them in the final are Preston Innovations Thatchers who scrapped through with a better total weight after tieing on points with Garbolino Blackmore Vale whom both had 56 points.
In the Individual stakes Lee Edwards (Daiwa Dorking) took a very similar weight to that which won him a recent practice match on the venue. Drawn on the end peg of the competition reach, Lee caught skimmers and bream to 3 lb on bloodworm and pole to record a storming victory with 37-5-0. The first peg at Church was good for Preston Innovations Thatchers rod, Nick Chedzoy who caught 21-13-0 of skimmers also on pole and bloodworm. Another end peg, this time at Beeches produced the third place win for Gary Pook (Daiwa Dorking). Gary's luck had picked up for the semi final after he had all his tackle stolen recently by weighing in with 18-13-0 of skimmers and roach.
Individual Placings:
1st Lee Edwards (Daiwa Dorking) 37-5-0
2nd Nick Chedzoy (Preston Innovations Thatchers) 21-13-0
3rd Gary Pook (Daiwa Dorking) 18-13-0
4th Matt Herbert (Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths) 15-10-0
5th Barry Chapman (Sensas South East) 15-2-0
6th Simon Willsmore (Daiwa Dorking) 14-13-0
7th Lee Farmer (Sensas Chilterns Bait) 13-5-8
8th Nigel Greenwood (Sensas South East) 13-5-0
(Weights recorded in lbs)
Team placings:
1st Daiwa Dorking 75 points
2nd Maver Image 58 points
3rd Preston Innovations Thatchers 56 points (85-2-8)
4th Garbolino Blackmore Vale 56 points (72-10-0)
5th Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths 50 points
6th Sensas Chiltern Bait 48 points
7th Tubertini South 40 points
8th Sensas South East 37 points
9th Browning Wickford 33 points

Angling Trust Winter League Southern Semi Final - Gloucester Canal, Saturday 31st March 2012

Match Report

A cold northerly wind greeted the 80 competitors to the Gloucester Canal for the first Southern Semi Final of the Angling Trust Winter League and the plunging temperatures meant the normally prolific roach went off the feed. The saving grace was the skimmers and bream which did show reasonably well especially in the later stages of the match and made for some impressive weights.

The favourites, Kamasan Starlets put in a fine performance on the day and cruised to victory with 25 points. Although venue experts Daiwa Gordon League were slightly disappointed they still took a well earned second place with 29 points, and the final qualifying place went to Milo Bordon with 39 points.

Individually, Ed Warren (Kamasan Starlets) drew fancied peg 61 below Hempstead Road Bridge, an early bream on the feeder could not be followed up in the first couple of hours, but a switch to the pole and bloodworm fished at 14 metres saw him catch another 9 bream to 4lb and a solitary eel to seal victory with a winning weight of 30-5-0. Gary Fuller above Hempstead Bend on peg 43 took 7 bream to 4-8-0 on feeder fished bloodworm and maggot to take second place with 25-10-0 narrowly beating local rod, Mark Brush, at the end peg below Rea Bridge who had 7 bream for 25-7-0.

Individual placings:

1st Ed Warren (Kamasan Starlets) 30-5-0

2nd Gary Fuller (Fox Match Arun) 25-10-0

3rd Mark Brush (Daiwa Gordon League) 25-7-0

4th Scott Geens (Kamasan Starlets) 24-8-8

5th Paul Glenfield (Sensas A4) 21-12-0

6th Hadrian Whittle (Kamasan Starlets) 19-14-0

7th Kevin Dowell (Fox Match Arun) 19-1-8

8th Chris Parr (Sensas Thyers) 17-1-0

(Weights recorded in lbs)

Team placings:

1st Kamasan Starlets 25 points

2nd Daiwa Gordon League 29 points

3rd Milo Bordon 39 points

4th Preston Innovations Delcac 40 points

5th Sensas Thyers 46 points

6th Fox Match Arun 52 points

7th Sensas A4 61 points

8th Garbolino Blackhorse 67 points
