who uses this and how does it compare to others.
Daiwa Hydro
Most of my topkits have hydro in them and I really like it in the bigger sizes. Dont like the lighter stuff and dont use anything other than Black, Purple and Red. As nearly all my fishing is likely to result in a few carp at least then these are all I need.
If I want to fish for smaller stuff the i have Preston Slip in 2 kits doubled 5 in one and doubled 6 in the other. The only other elastic I have in my main pole is 2 kits of Vespe Power Bagger orange.

Use it in all sizes except Brown( pole will break first)
Excellant value for money as the cost is off set against how many times a year solids or other hollows need replacing.
My favourite is black or red but you need to make sure there is enough room for them to move at the bush end.

Only ever suffered snapped elastic twice and each time it was Red Hydro.
Personally i found it to soft for me and it's life span was terrible (lasted about 6 months in a kit).
Vespe (both old solid 25 and 22 and Hollow Orange) suits me fine and some has been in my kits for over 4 years now.
BUT in the last 2 seasons i have hardly fished much to be honest with probably only 50 trips in that time.
Elastic same as line is always a personal thing.

I agree, trial and error.lastic same as line is always a personal thing.
I love black hydro and always have for pretty much everything.
I used to love red until they changed it and then the problems started. I had some original red in from 2008 I think when I first got my 401 and there was nothing wrong with it to be fair but I swapped it for some new red. The end by the bush went frayed. I was told it was because I had allowed it to run through a snag which I deffo had not.
I got a new length for free and the same thing happened. My bush was plenty big enough, my elastic was always well lubricated and I treated the new elastic no different to the old stuff which I had no problems with.
I got rid of the red hydro and switched to orange vespe and pink vespe (the thick one) and have not looked back. The old red was bullet proof but I did not get on with new newer red with a different coloured core in it.
Saying that, the black and white hydro thats in my 401 topkits is what I took out of my Messiah topkits and it is still going strong. I'm pretty sure I brought that in 2006, So in terms of value for money that cannot be beaten for sure. I cannot comment on the latest black or white hydro.

Vespe only made a certain amount of the pink stuff no longer available i am told as it was not a big seller and dont be fooled by the current pink stuff either as the diameter is different. ::)
but i do now a secret aswell
