Interestingly, a first Cashmores visit to the Cannock Extension Canal where Roberto battered me off the next peg with skimmers

Another match of note was FK's first visit to Little Onn - pegged just past the cables he'd fished chopped worm and caster for 4 hrs with just a couple of gudgeon to show for it. He was just about to wrap up with an hour to go.............he slipped on a pinkie for the first time, went over his chop and did double figures in that last hour

Thought I'd record them here, etched in the annals for 'eternity' Mugger.

They bring back so many memories - good times, bad times, what went right, what went wrong.

A kaleidoscope of emotions and of all the banter with a lot of really good pals, sadly some no longer fishing with us.

I could write masses about many of the matches, but wouldn't want to 'bore' all.

Just wish a few of our other members would chip in with their thoughts about a match or two.

Perhaps that's just given me an idea for another thread

I wouldn't say I have masses, but almost everytime I go out,

I think about writing something, but then... think... do people really want me wittering on.

Re the 1999 results, two are worthy of further mention.....

First MGB's 13lb carp that came from Borrowpit - a 'proper' carp that fell to a piece of bread that was skill fully played and successfully netted on relatively light gear

Talking of which, here's MGB with that fish from Borrowpit

MGB also adds 'This one I can remember! 13..12..00 carp from Borrowpit Lake, part of my 20..8..10 winning catch. [17/7/99] I didn't catch it on bread as you suggested in your post, but on a small maggot feeder with a 18 hook to 1.5 hook length.

I remember being very miffed when I drew my peg which was peg 1 right by the car park. This was right by where joe public would come and park to feed the swans and ducks. I wasn't well pleased!

I chuntered to a fellow fisherman who had stopped to chat and he said "Think about it, all that bread doesn't only attract the ducks you know! Cast to the left just past where the ducks are." so I did. The rest is history! Nothing like a bit of local knowledge.

I remember the following year [2000] we fished Borrowpit again. I was doing the draws then and I was amazed to draw the same peg. I remember feeling mortified 'cause I was convinced in my mind that everyone would think I had fixed it!!!

I was glad in a way not to win that year, I don't think I would have lived it down!
