Hi Lads,
During our latest round of the AT Winter League we had a situation where an angler arrived at his peg then decided to set up 7 yards up stream from where his peg number was placed. As the venue in question was a Drain this gave the angler in question a swim of 22 yards long as apposed to the norm of 16 yards, this also moved him closer to where the fish were caught in the previous weeks match..

The chap in question then won his section and framed in the match. At the end of the weigh in a competitor pointed out what had happened to the match organiser, who then replied “Well what can you do “

What do you lads think should have been done or should be done?

the same as lee has said if you let one angler off bending the rules it will always bite you in the face later its cheating!!!!full stop
its like shoplifting just because its a small bar of choc they have put in there pocket why should you let them off !!garantee in the future it will be a large bar Image

there are always anglers out there that will try and bend the rules and its the match organisier that has the final say and its up to anglers to inform him as soon as possable Image

Joff,
I totaly agree with you, however the match organiser who was in the same section as the chap who moved his peg said "well what can he do" this was after the weigh in and before the results were announced?

I was under the impresion that under NFA match rules you could move 1 yard either side of your peg but that was it!

It still leaves the question what can be done at this stage.?

The match organiser aint got a clue has he,or any
ba##s.But as w/h says, anglers near him shud of
made an off. complaint. You get similar things when
paper pegs are used when the first angler on the bank
could reposition his a little, tho happens more on rivers
as canals are uniform etc and the gap would be
obvious. At the end of the day this bloke has
CHEATED ,not many have the spines to challenge
them and it always comes up on the forums, instead
of where it matters,at the match.

As a match organiser I can only suggest that you ought to be fishing to Angling Trust Rules wherever possible. There may be odd discrepancies like mobile phone use or the like.
This is a major issue and a previous poster stated he thought an angler can fish one yard either side of his peg, this is correct under Angling Trust Rules.
In rare circumstances like wasps nests (unlikely in December) or unsafe ground the competor may seek permission, from the organiser to adjust his peg, he can not do it off his own bat.
In accordance with Angling Trust Rules the angler that moved his peg 7 yards without permission should have been disqualified there and then.

There is no reason why matches should be fished under Angling Trust Rules but it makes complete sense to do so, after all that they are tried and tested over many years and are all we really have to go on.

Match organisers that make up their own Rules are asking for trouble because as sure as eggs are eggs there will be totally unneccesary problems.

For the record many years ago I disqualified a guy from continually moaning in one of my matches although there is nothing in the rules to say such! This guy went besek when he drew on this cut and said it shouldn't be in; he actually upset a lot of anglers that day with his antics. He had a 4 lb bream first put in then some more. He 'won' the match by a mile and I point blank refused to weigh him in because of his attitude. I think I gave him his pool money back but not the peg fee.
He apologised but it was too late; funnily enough we get on really well now and you would all be suprised as to who it was but that is my little secret and it will stay that way. Image Image

I'm with you on that one fordy, I’m amazed that only 1 chap said something. More to the point I’m mortified that the match organiser didn't do anything???? I think the whole affair is C##p!

Another thing that has come to light is that the result affects the placing in the individual league!

There is a danger of things like this getting out of hand. Yes he has done wrong and should'nt have been weighed in.
In this case I don't agree with name and shame, after all he knows what he has done and if his weight is scrubbed and points adjusted where they should be ample. If this goes through it is enough, he will not do it again and most anglers will get to find out who it is anyway.
I would agree 100% if he had bought fish with him or tipped his in a mates keepnet. That should be name and shame on top of a lifetime ban.

Only my thoughts and this is based on what I would do.

In my opinion the best thing to do to forget about it, if the guy mentioned had finished half way in his section nothing would of  been said.

The matter should have been resolved before the match....

sorry gibbo its too late now to do anything :-/ :-/
but what i would suggest is the organizer sets it in stone that it will not be tolerated again
rules are rules and if you are the organizer you should be strong and clear Image Image

Thanks for the wise words lads. I'll leave it as it is, however, i've just left our tackle shop and it appears that quite a few people are pi#?ed off over what has happened, some say its the anglers fault 100% as its cheating the others say its the organisers fault for not having the back bone to deal with it as he could at the time.

All i know is that this type of thing combined with all the other type of crap surrounding team fishing lately just makes me want to give it up and just fish opens????? the problem then is, its hard to find a open bigger that 20pegs around cambridgeshire unless you want to go on commercials, either way i'm stuffed :'(

gibbo we all feel like that when this sort of thing happens thats why organizers have to have BIG MAN BALLS mate why should you walk away from what you love just because of a cheat make sure he knows he a cheat as well

the other problem is getting organizers now-er days i've heard one or two are stopping running matches
its a right bast~rd of a job for very little reward

Thanks for that Joff,
I know you run a tight match and you should be applauded and appreciated for what you do. Same goes to bill as I’ve heard the same of him. However our winter league just seems to be run on a whim with no rules or principles and this is a major ball ache for those people who just want fish and compete on a level playing field……..

Gibbo,do what you feel is right mate,if you think naming and shaming is the way to go then do it.At the end of the day if someone "knowingly" bends the rules then they should suffer the consequences.I've always thought it every anglers responsibility to protect not only there own pools money, but the whole matches pools money.Dont let it put you off mate, all the best,Norm

best thing to do now is to bring it up at the AGM for next year and if it means printing out the rules then so be it in fact all leagues should do that i think everyone could do with a reminder Image
