If you were on peg 5 then was you sat on mr vs laps or was he on 15 ? Image

hard day

After seeing them weights i was gonna ask if it fished harrd or if them are the expected weights. You can't even blame the TK Image for this match as he doesnt seem to have fished it. Did he know in advance that the venue was a toilet Image

to say the place was a toilet is an understatement.

Did it have soft paper or that tracing paper stuff Image Image so you will not be going again

Thanks guys for taking the time and trouble to peg it out.

What narks me Ian, and I think its a totally justifiable 'moan' is that speaking to MarkV on Fri night there was still a potential of 20 turning up..........

But typically some members just cant be bothered to pick up the phone  >:(  and let us know that they wont be there - for whatever reason

Whilst I've taken a bit more of a 'back seat' this season in the 1/2hour leading upto the draw (now tied up collecting pools money etc) I just donot think it is fair on those pegging out. Its a total blatant disregard and 'could care less' attitude for the few who are prepared to 'participate' in making the matches 'happen'

But by heck, there would soon be a moan or two from that same element if there wasnt a peg put in for them.......

You might also be pleased to hear that this venue was already crossed off the Xmas card list before the match - even if you'd all done 20lbs of silvers each

I can only speak for my peg and say it was an absolute dream, quite seriously. But then I love this kind of fishing, even though the venue is a pale shadow of its glory years.

I didnt fish for many years, just an occasional annual outing and missed all the good times on venues like this, which is probably one of the reasons I still fish them. Hardly been off the rivers since the season opened. However, as you can probably imagine, I cut a more and more lonesome figure lol.

The main thing about my peg was that there was fish in it. I had a lovely net of mixed small river fish, including one chub of about a pound and a quarter on the stick. Lost two more on the stick that took me into the same snag and lost a skimmer well over the pound at the net. So I should have had more, but was generally happy with what I did.

Started on  a waggler down the middle and picked up a few bleak and then a 6oz skimmer and bumped something. I've found elsewhere that while there are bleak in the river, theres not massive numbers and if you plug away, small chub can often come every 4-6 ish bleak if you're lucky, and its not as if you get bothered with the bleak every cast.

That said, I knew I should really get on the deck with a feeder beneath the waggler line to catch, but I was enjoying running the waggler through smashing style, with no wind, so much, that I put off changing for quite a while.

When I did change I caught small skimmers straight off, untill coming inside on the stick where i'd been constantly trickling in a few casters and some hemp.

Picked up the chub fairly quickly. Then small fish, mixed but mainly skimmers quite regularly. Alternated with the mid river feeder but that line died. As did the stick line with an hour to go.

I eventually hooked and lost the pike that was the trouble. Glorious day in a fabulous peg that kept me busy with plenty of bites, working to get them.

There's not much else i'd rather do in life than trot a stick down the Avon, quite seriously.

I almost feel like apologising for being so upbeat after all the dire press the river recieves, I know its often tough but I really still do enjoy it.

I've caught fish off the Avon pleasure fishing this year a few times and each net gives me great pleasure. They're often hard won and it aint easy and of course, you have to be on some first.

On the way home I had an hour or so at Cleeve Prior on the stick for just two bleak. A perfect example.

What i've taken to doing pleasure wise, is often walking away from my car with a stick float set up and a bait box and net (didnt at Cleeve). I have a few trots in a swim and if I catch a fish I go get my gear, convinced if there's one to be caught quickly there'll be others. works for me :D

when a quality angler like mr v can only manage 7oz you know how hard it was.

I could say so so much more, but i don't really see the point.

Nice write up mark and well done on a fine net of fish!

I know what you're saying about Mr V, YAMO, very true.

I was in my local tackle shop on friday lunchtime and an angler said he'd seen Dave Harrell fishing in the Evesham Town/Crown Meadow area. On enquiring what he'd caught he was told hadnt had a bite !

I was lucky to have fish in my peg.

Well done to the 13 who turned up, prepared to tackle any venue. I'll be back on the puddles with you next time.

I could write a load on the fiasco I had trying to locate the pegs we were supposed to fish pre-season and on the pegging out but can't be bothered now its over. Just pleased we all found our pegs.

I will say after pegging out, it took me and Ian two attempts each to get back up the slippy grass slope, only succeeding after increasing our 'run up ' Image Didnt mention it at the draw and luckily it dried out. I was envisaging the 4X4 lads pulling a couple of us out. The ruts on that track were enormous as well and could have caused a lot of damage if anyones wheels had slipped in.

The hard track down to the river, the one we didnt use, should be sorted or closed in my opinion too.

Many thanks to Ian H for arriving just after seven to peg out. He comes a big distance and deserves a medal for it  Image

Well, what a match. The last time I fished the Avon was almost 10 years ago when it was solid with Chub, Roach and Dace  :'(
I drew a nice looking peg, but commented to Heinzer before the match it looked like a Carp/Tench water now with all the lily pads and rush beds and hardly any flow (on our pegs at least)  :(
9 bites, 7 fish for a pitiful weight  Image
Well done Mark V. A worthy winner on the day  Image And a mention to Ian H for his efforts to get up there and help peg out, now thats what you call dedication Image

exactly Si, i agree. This is why i think the forum is not the place for any of that, especially on a results thread.

Thanks simple Image
