Went for a walk up here today. I was planning on fishing but I'm glad I left my gear at home.
My and Drynet were planning a trip up here last Tues/Weds but we called it off.

Should have given it a go Si as some of my best canal fishing has followed an hour of Ice Breaking.

Normally it's fish from the first put in after breaking the Ice on the cuts.

Best 2 ice breakers i've ever used were a Saw (walk out on the ice then cut a 4ft wide channel back to your own bank) .

Second best was a 10lb sledge hammer head fixed to 5ft of chain and then 30ft of rope. (use the chain to saw through the ice) it's possible to cut it if it's nice nd thick into 3 or 4 pieces then just slid then under the main sheet.

Frank,

I'm sure there would be no shortage of volunteers to break it for you. ;)

Although getting them to actually get there in this chilly weather might be asking a bit. ::)

Make sure you have at least £2.50p with you if you fish it as we have a bailiff on the bank and he patrols most days.

Or buy a season ticket from ian's tackle £15 jan /dec adults
oap's and juniors £10

Waters covered Penkridge ( cross keys ) to Acton Trussle
Penderford
Wombourne

All the best Image

I did buy a season card a few years ago but did not fish as much as I would have like but I take money with me in case the bailiff comes along anyway Image
Its still frozen solid anyway. You can walk on it easily now. Must be 4 inches thick Image
