It fished very hard indeed having been fish all through the week in the run up to our match.

I got there dipped my nets and had a lovely sandwich and cuppa tea then the rest arrived.
Kelvin and Postman Pat looked happy..
Image

At the draw I drew peg 10 which was permanent peg 21.

Image

Looked lovely with the lilies to my left.
To my right I had Conna for company...

Image

After setting up a margin rig and 2 shallow rigs, one for caster and one for boilie or pellet I had a walk around the lake to collect the peg numbers.

Tinky...

At the all in I fed the inside with corn and pellet and was having indications of fish right away and foul hooked one in the tail  Image After that my inside swim was pretty much dead  Image Image

So I went out shallow to 11m on the 8mm boilie feeding pellet and had a small carp. It was very slow going but at least I was catching a few as I could see people catching on the opposite bank.

I had a steady slow of fish until the last 35 mins when I started feeding caster and what a difference it made. I was having one a chuck. I did most on my weight in the last 30 mins.
I dont know why I didn't try it earlier but you live and learn dont you.
3rd in the club will do me though. I whopped Tinky and thats all I care about  Image  Image Image

Some pics from the end of the match. Notice how the smiles have gone  Image Image Image

Posted this on MD's after going to Larford yesterday. Ok , I know they didnt move in the margins all round the pool ::) but you get the idea

I fished as a guest on a club match yesterday at a very well known match venue. A couple of things happened which i've noticed before when with them at these sort of venues...

There's yak yak yaking / banter all around the lake ...till someone shouts 'ALL IN' and blows a whistle.

Prior to this there's fish topping everywhere... after this nothing.

A hush descends and not a fish shows anywhere. They know the routine.

At the end of the match the fish move into the margins like migrating salmon, driven by rumbling bellies, habit or maybe
just knowing the game.

So here's my suggestions for a good day out for all.

Clubs adopt a system of flags for the off, operated by an appointed marshall. red flag hoisted with 5 minutes to go, yellow flag at 2 mins and green glag hoisted for the off.

Note, no whistle is sounded ! (they've sussed this). Nor is anyone to shout all in.

Competitors with the loudest gobs ( err voices ) are appointed to keep up the banter at a good pace while everyone, including they, bag up for a bit before the fish suss whats happening.

Then, just for the hell of it, someone blows the whistle after 45 minutes to a chorus of all in just to confuse 'em completely.

Don't know what to suggest about the middle bit.

With 5 minutes to go, someone blows a whistle and shouts all out, very loudly. Maybe a few anglers.

This is the signal for the tea break. 5 minutes of it, during which it is suggested bait boxes are rapped on platforms and fair bit of stamping of feet etc goes on, inc more banter and of course, loads of bait is chucked in the margins, preferably under competitors feet. No good taking it home.

Fishing then resumes, indicated by a pre-arranged flag of course and everyone bags up for 45 minutes and goes home happy. Job done.

Why doesnt anyone try it ? ;) :D

Well i was really up for this match but when i got to my peg it all strted to go wrong and turned out to be a disaster, my plan was to set up two rigs and then fill it with pellet, i was not to bad down in the margin with around 3 ft of depth using my top 4 it all really went wrong when i set up my 8mtr line trying to plum up and finding at least 8ft of water Image was impossible for me to attack as my rigs where only 4.5 ft deep so i had to change my plan to fish up in the water at 8 inches, like Tigerbay Said in his post plenty of fish up in the water but when the whistle blew they just was not gonna have it Image Image it was 3 hours before i had my first take on hair rigged pellet & corn Imagebut it soon dryed up :'( :'( :'( Image

what was to make my day worse was simple next door donig his Mr Muscle Advertisment with his top off Image Image Image

The guy in a local takle shop, which ive only just started using, was there all week at the festval. Apparently he'd been fifth one day with 188lb or 198lb, cant quit remember !

I went round sat morning for hooks and was going to try tubertini 808's and the old faithfull b911's although I think them a bit heavy.

He told me to leave the 808's as not up to it there with the way the fish pull ,so I just had the b911's in a 16 & 14. He said use the 16's.

For tactics he said, get yourself a bowl of slop and fish shallow ..and I mean THIS shallow, indicating with his hands somewhere between a foot and eighteen inches at 6m. Great I thought, up to date inside knowledge   :D

Before the off, fish topping everywhere and I thought I can see why he said fish shallow.

Didnt get a touch shallow as all movememnt ceased at the all in ! Wasnt happy with the presentation I was managing either though with a dibber in the wind.

Then fishery staff came round and said you need to get in the margins ! Thats where they were caught in the week, v close in. So I switched and slugged it out with the lads either side of me but could keep up , despite I think starting better. I didnt manage to put a run of fish together as they did, just odd ones. Think i'm learning though, maybe ::)

Except at the end when they were lining up ! With ten or so mins to go i was getting a bite ev put in but missing a lot and the then had b511 BREAK just below the spade!  So much for the hooks.

I was giving the fish some stick to try and get in quick but on a 14 solid elastic I wouldnt expect a break and it wasnt that much stick.

So much for the hooks and so much for the tactics... isnt that just fishing   :D
