Such a nice evening last night ... Earlswood
Such a nice evening last night, popped down to Earlswood with a few bits in a bag, chair rod and net and some worms out my garden.
Was thinking more about having a kip in my highback chair more than fishing... ::) but ended up with three carp over 10 lbs each, lost another and had loads of liners/missed bites. Kept waking me up !
Finished with a knackered landing net handle for my trouble too !
Lifting 'em up and away from the dam wall turned it into an 'L' shape.
There's some big fish in there and a LOT of them.
Those I had were in very good condition, if not perfect, much better than I thought i'd heard about them

I even left my scales in the car Simple, let alone camera !
All I did was set up on the wall and swung a 7 inch waggler under arm about 10-15 yds along about two yards out, into what I found, after plumbing was only 2 1/2 to 3 feet max of water. 8lb line and a single no4 dropper. Sitting paralell to the bank looking along it.
Held my rod and setlled down for a rest... but there were some monsters down there. Makes me smile with everyone walking past, oblivious to whats down there in the edge, anglers included.
About a year ago I went down with a fish finder I had then, and picked up quite a few fish dotted along the wall close in, so thats what I decided to go at last night, and of course, its an easy option fishing wise.
Cant understand why people think its a whotsit hole. Ive heard other people say that. I live quite near and used to fish it very occasionally 30 years ago. Over the last three years ive fished there maybe 15 plus times but always on windmill, the bream and roach lake except for last night and one other occasion. Its not great when the levels drop a lot, but windmill lake is certainly not a hole and from what I saw last night the engine lake was okay. Ok I didnt walk round it , and maybe there's a bit of litter occasionally but a hole ? Cant see that myself. Seen worse commercials, with dying fish and surface scum. There is something about the place I cant put my finger on that means its never made it onto my list of favourites, granted , but otherwise, i'm wondering what I'm missing ?

Been back tonight. An even nicer evening !
Result : Carp 2 Me 0. Lost 'em both after lengthy scraps
Had a bream about 3 that surrendered straight away on the heavy gear and a roach.

What time do you go down there Tiger ?

Well, these couple of times, 7 & 7.30.
Had to wait till 9.25 to hook the first carp tonight and then the second one straight after lost the first.
They were bubbling and grubbing around good and proper all night though, probably preoccupied with some natural food.

No probs Simon. Mind you, you wont learn anything from the way I fish it. I'm just underaming a waggler down the side. The only thing missing is me Mr Crabtree hat
