Artificial Baits
Artificial Baits
Hi guys. Has anyone tried using artificialbloodworm? I fished my canal today and caught around 30 small roach / skimmers on bread punch. I tried using the artificial bloodworm and never got a bite. Was just wondering if it is me or if this bait is actually crap!!

Not worth it kiddo artificial baits are banned from competition fish and if you see anyone using them you should report it to the organizers
That goes for commercials as well plastic pellets, hemp ,corn , worms ,bread, maggots and casters .

Artificial Baits
I have tried artificial baits, without much success. I found the only time that they actually worked was when the fish were on a feeding frenzy.
You need to be very careful when using them and make sure you use a barbed hook to prevent the bait coming off in the fish's mouth and being swallowed as they don't 'break down' too quickly in the fish's stomach and can cause internal problems for the fish. I think that is why most commercials frown on their use. With the exception of bloodworm most baits are cheap enough to use so I personally would avoid artificials.

Artificial Baits
The following, from Angling Trust Model Match Rules should not be too difficult to understand.
Rule 11. Any bait, subject to local rules, can be used except live or dead fish, frogs, spinning baits or artificial lures.
[/Where it states subject to local rules the club water you are fish or match you are fishing may well have an overriding rule. There are many examples of this, - for instance on most of the canal matches around here pellets and boilies are listed as bannedi]
Hope this helps, some clubs in the country still ban coloured maggots whether pleasure fishing or match fishing, - I know of at least one venue that actually bans black umbrellas. A venue, not too far from here used to ban fishing to the right of your swim or was it the left, in matches!
