Yesterday i fished the Packington Silverfish league John and the boys do a really good job and the fishery is well maintained.Packington has a large numbers of silverfish and in the past i've enjoyed some really good days on Moland .On arrival i wasted no time in ordering a breakfast was they are always well presented and clean and are proper belly fillers .
I was surprised how many anglers were fishing the silverfish league it looked around 40 to 45 i didn't know too many of them but they made me more than welcome. As the draw took place John had warned me that the first round i had missed had fished hard and you'd would be looking for around 20lb fairplay i thought and cut everything i had plannned in half . i drew 47 a area i really fancied and hoped of a good start
Looking around i knew i had some good anglers in my section and that part of the lake has a lot of twists and turns and with a swirreling wind some had more shelter than others
I must say my bait tray looked a little odder than usual with casters and dead maggots some home grown redworms and my good old pinkies
My game plan was simple so i thought one line at 13m with G/B with casters and chopped up redworms then another line with fishmeal and dead red maggots a left and right 5m line feeding caster and a 3m just in case it was like Ryecroft where you can catch some stunning roach and perch as the weather has not been too cold
rigs as light as possible plus a worm rig that was it perhaps i should of set a feeder rod up or even a waggler but i honestly didn't think it was going to fish quite as it did
well to cut a long story short my peg was full of F1s know don't get me wrong great sport and some must of gone 5lb but when they don't count after 20 odd it became so frustrating but it wasn't just me everyone i could see had been catching F1s the silvers has switched off the odd skimmer came along as did the odd tench but other than that it was netting F1s on top six or top 5s
I never really fished for F1s and did enjoy it 0.9 bottoms and never lost one i couldn't get myself out of this mess it was just one after the other i wouldn't of said i'd over fed
when the final whistle went i just put my head in my hands a great day catching loads of fish yet weighing in very little
One man who did the business was local angler Gary booth again Gary had endless F1s yet managed to put a few skimmers and tench together
1st Gary Booth Colmic/smithies 11lb 8oz
2nd Derek Hartshorn swanns baits 11lb6oz
3rd Dave Duggon Dams & locks 9lb 13oz
4th Brian Burton packington 8lb 4oz
next round 17th

They save smashed carbon when your catching decent lumps though Joff Seen lots of top 5,6,7's become top 27's when a carp has a serge
Just cant get a draw
