When a venue has regular matches in winter and conditions mean the fish don't feed how long do you think bloodworm and joker stay in the venue for?

I know this don't make sense but in a way with match fishing logic goes straight out of the window.

We have on particular stretch of the Staffs-Worcs at Stafford where it wasn't too difficult to get yourself a nice pack of small bloodworm. You never even had to go in the cut, you could reach it from the bank.
This was the only stretch where I found any in any numbers and I used it quite a bit as stocks never seemed to diminish.
Yet if you put a match on it, it was really hard to say the least. It has always fished really well in the summer.

I know it don't add up but there you go

Joff, how much goes in over a six match series?

On a typical match I reckon most feed at least 1/2 kilo, that's 300 kilo over the six matches, that's a lot of joker.

If the fish aren't feeding it doesn't fly off until weather warms up.

how mutch ofthat 1/2 kilo is alive. a lot of the jocker you get is like jam in news paper.

if you feed half a kg of joker one you must be mad!!! two i dont think our canal is that silty and it flows lee i was in the worst section the factory wall most of the far bank is made up of bricks so a lot of joker is lost yet the middle is a proper top 3 deep i managed 15 tinny roach for 7oz and 9oz won the section if I'd of put half a kg or a teaspoon in i wouldn't of thought it would of made a differences lee even the tinny roach were full of the stuff

on a clear canal its possible to win the match off these pegs

On commercials, i've had days where myself and others around me have really struggled then at the all out we've thrown all our left over bait in down the edge and within minutes it's been getting ate by a load of carp with the bottom getting churned up and everything.
Now carp are supposed to be dumb fish and less intelligent as roach aint they?
How many times have you fished a natural venue in winter and not caught roach properly until late in the match..
My theory is the carp behave like this on commercials because of the pressure anglers put on them and they get used to knowing when they can safely feed without getting caught.
Is it possible that on natural waters that are getting heavily fished, that the roach maybe taking a leaf out of the daft old carps book and eating there grub after the anglers have packed up.
I know when i used to fish the midlands canals with worm and joker (and lee will prob back me up on this) every time we had a match on a new stretch of the cut we'd catch good stamp roach for the first yr then the next year you'd think they were gone.. but you'd catch small stamp fish instead but millions of them.
Why is this? is it because they have grown wise to the pressure off anglers or have they died, or swam off, or bred then died... its a mystery really.
I'd like david attenborough to do a series on under water lives of coarse fish on canals before he snuffs it just to understand what happens.

dead right that lewis every joker venue we fished the stamp got smaller then eventually just went to little perch in some bits

true the fish in my fish tank have learnt when its time to be fed. as i feed them same time every day 6.00 pm they start acting different all shoaling up in the corner were i feed them when i walk past the tank around that time. if i walk past in the morning they dont do owt.
