Occasionally mould a fair chunk of paste around 6oz gripper leads

Still learning Peds, hence not rushing to give a response. We used to mix fish meal with a beaten egg but I'm told it needs to be a lot less tacky now so it basically just holds hook enough to get to required depth then breaks away very quickly

Gale I grind my pellets down first then put them in boiling water . be mindful that some pellet brands react very differently when broken down with water especially boiling water . you don't have to grind them down its just what I do as they break down into a nice smooth paste much easier. the commercials I fish you have to use there pellets so you can buy the fisheries Micro pellets then add the boiling water then use a large spoon to simply mash them to the consistency you need. remembering you can always add water if needed. you can also buy the ready ground down paste if the fisheries that your going to allow you to do so of course.also a little tip is to freeze the paste what you don't use for the next session this really helps with the consistency you'll find it gets better the more you freeze . hope this helps give us a shout if you need any more advice

You can ground down your pellets for a finer paste and then add water on the bank or like others have said put some pellets in a tub (fishery pellets are normally good as the fish are used to them)
Then put enough boiling water over them to cover them and 2cm over the top. Leave them to soak up all the water and then mash them up (be careful may still be hot) The smaller the pellet the faster they suck up the water and break down. I use 4mm's
Add more water if required. Dead simple.
You can add flavours or colours before you pour in the water if required, that way they get soaked up into the pellets as they suck up the water.

Welcome to the site too, Ignore the towpath teds, they hate pellets and paste. Brings them out in a rash I think... Unless you need some canal advice then they are the men to ask

Also ready made paste would be a good place to start, Miracle Baits paste is good. Easy way to start paste fishing as its easy to mix and stays on the hook very well until you get the hang of it and start experimenting with your own paste mixes.

Gale as the lads have pointed out you can use egg as a binder but ask the fisheries that you are fishing if it's allowed as some don't allow any binding ingredients just there pellets and water.personally just keep it simple water and pellets

Ha ha, point taken. We used to make it stiff and tacky but not like putty!! ::) ::)

it's a very good point with how soft sloppy or hard the paste is you are putting on the hook. I personally have spent loads of time experimenting with the consistency and found it really does depend on depth and where you fish it in your peg ie in the margins or out in front obviously I'm talking about fishing on the pole.
