About Me

Me with a Willows Carp

My Name is Simon Mound and I love Match fishing.

I started fishing again about 6 years a go after giving up after fishing as a junior for a number of years, I got invited to fish for a club called Yale AC by a guy called Tinky from the local tackle shop.

I remember my first match, I have never laughed so much in my life, I was instantly hooked to the match fishing scene. The fishing was good too and I was soon learning new tricks from the blokes in the club along with various fishing magazines.

I then signed up to a fishing site called Maggotdrowners.com where slowly I plucked up the courage to fish a match they were hosting, again another cracking match. The fishing was not very good but the banter was top notch.

On Maggotdrowners I was reading topics about ‘The Jinx Series’  jinxsigand though “hmmm this looks good.” Rumour had it that these matches were impossible to get on but I had a trick up my sleeve called Simon ‘me’ (he befriended me from the start hehe) who got me on one of the matches. Thanks Si.  The Jinx mob turned out to be a Friendly bunch  of absolute NUTTERS.

It was on the Jinx series I met Gem, Malcs Daughter. We soon hit it off, trying to hide it from Malc. Fearing my life for the full force of the Jinx we told Malc and he wasn’t bothered, Lesson learned…. Just tell the truth from the start. That’s how I met Gem.

My Lovely Gem

I am lucky to have a girlfriend who fishes as well, Gem is more than capable of beating me and the other blokes when she puts her mind to it. Take a look at her impressive MINX LIST

I am currently fishing TK’s Grueller series, The Jinx Series and various other matches on different forums. I am no longer fishing with Yale AC as I felt it was time to do something different.

This year I will be defending my Grueller series title from last year, I was lucky enough to win the series after 10 gruelling matches on the Curley Wirley canal and a few matches on the Rugeley power station venues.

Winning the Grueller series with a jammy Bream 😀

I have had a really good year, I have had some good results along with some really bad ones. But hey, That’s fishing for you. That why I keep coming back for more.

When in Yale AC I started a website and some forums for the club. It all started off very slowly with very few users but over the years it has grown to a nice little size.

HanKat AS, Cashmores AC and Marsh AC all have their own sections, each with their own ‘Characters’ There’s plenty of laughs on there mainly at the expense of Woodhouse.

Yale Angling Club Forums then turned in to Simple Match Fishing in July 2009 after I left Yale. That is where I am at the moment. Things are going well and I couldn’t be happier. A link to the forums is on the right, stop by and have a look.

I have been reading a number of blogs recently that inspired me to do my own, namely Clive’s and Peters. With a little guidance I hope I can produce something like yours.

I have recently made a site for Rolfslake that allows  you to click on a peg number and get a picture of the peg and any features for the peg, also you can click “Top 10 Match Weights” to get a up to date list of the last weights that have come from that peg. Allowing you to compare your weight against others.  Take a look and see what you think.
