Well i was expecting to get up on sunday morning and get at least a 100 miles to the gallon wind assisted. Image Image where had the wind gone i'd got up before the alarm had gone off and yet heard no howling wind or gates banging Image Image quick coffee and away i didn't want to be late again ;) ;) a nice pleasant drive up all motorway and with a little early morning sun-shine very nice ;) ;) one of the lads had fished the stainy on the saturday as said the waves were that big you could of windsurfed from one end to the other Image Image
After the draw i felt quite confident as i had drawn 187 not too far from where i was last time
Image

The mud was still as bad but the wind had dropped choppy had draw the next section down so we had a catch up chat. Richie said on the website he wasn't bothering with B/J and fairplay it could go either way. my section had Sean Ashey Bicko again and a couple of the sensas thorne lads in it Image Image

Image

Ear to the ground and had a noisy at the others around me and desided to take it easy on the bait.
I also thought the wind might get up as it started to get breezy well more blustery :-/ my rigs had changed a little one hemp one caster and then .4.6.and a gram only because the lad above me fished a blinder for the small roach
G/B canal 3000 sensas and canal noir plus soil ;) ;) very little food contents and desided to put 3 balls in at 9m with 150ml of joker and 250 ml of hemp somthing the barnsley lads seam to doing Imageand enough G/B and soil to make 6 balls on two lines one at 11 oclock and the other at 2 oclock Then i mixed another 4 balls this time with with 200ml of joker and 200ml of hemp plus a odd caster all went into 4 balls at 13m this line i wanted to leave for as long as i could then a few caster andhemp at 14.5m

The day was hard with a few very small roach coming out for a start with no one really running away with it .Choppy had caught some early fish on caster yet had not had a bite on bread which niether of use thought possible .i kept changing from line to line yet catching fish yet very small i couldn't find a way past .With choppy catching on caster i thought if nothing changes my best option would be to sit it out on caster .My 13 m line did throw up some better roach but once i'd caught a few they backed of :-/ :-/. caster was my only hope of catching a bigger fish Sean between us had a really good last couple of hours just better fish and put 10lb on the scales to win the section i managed 4lb 6oz choppy had 7lb 15oz for saying he had no B/J i thought what a great result Imageshame the hemp never went we might of had a few more

great venue Image

Good write up Joff, the canal was out of sorts, the keadby basin was a struggle yesterday 7lb 4 oz won our knock up, although no b & j is not allowed on scunnys water, the basin normally fishes well in the winter time

Hi Daveyboy,, Andy Geldart won with 13-01-0 off 176, he caught a few fish on worm/joker and had a few skimmers on caster. I was only 173 so not far away from winner but was way short on weight, mine went 9-05-0 only 3 roach & the rest skimmers,.. Fished poor in general to what it has been like but 13LB is a good weight for any canal, cracking day with the weather and I got to meet Joffy & Choppy for the first time Image. Great to be there on a big match for nowadays..

Dave always stay for the results I think it plight but a lot of the lads fish and then have to go to work times being such as they are
FairPlay to the pub they put sandwiches on every table afterwards and it's always great to catch up with some of my old friends from up north Image
The walks are not that bad if the mud has time to dry out Imagethere are some easy walks and not too far

Do they only use the pegs 160 to to 230, or are they splitting the match up?

160 to 230 are used taking that the 230s are the scrublands they haven't used west street or the stainy lands for some reason
Lee and Tom run the matches and one thing they are having trouble with are the knotted landing nets anglers are using they are banned Image

A lot of the lads who used to go to Holland bought those knotted monofilament nets, I've got a couple in the shed( which is where they'll stay) .
Can't see why anyone would risk getting caught using them in this country.

Same as the lead olivettes we got there, I bought some to use in Holland, but stopped cos they weren't the size they stated.

After fishing the stainy on sunday and traveling home i thought about what Lee and Tom said at the draw on the morning about knotted nets and landing nets i'm pretty sure its mainly landing nets .While fishing in Holland i came across these knotted nets i found them to have a heavy frame but the nets were very light and the water passed through them a lot quicker.Landing bream was so much quicker at 5 metres and your landing net hadn't half the amount of slime on them plus you didn't get soaked from the net. Back in England i started using it until i found out about them being band a lapse in concentration on my behalf as i quickly remembered Roy Marlow putting the matter forward some years ago .Now its in my shed hanging up ready for Holland as they are not banned over there and everyone else uses them simply because of the speed you can land fish.Yet i can't is why anglers are still using them over here its not as if they are going to get away with it as i'm pretty sure on sunday a chap was on the bank looking at everyones net .All this could quite easily get Match fishing banned of what is one of the most prolific winter fisheries and i take it Tom and Lee had already had a warning about anglers using these nets .Belantly match anglers obversely ignored the first warning !! no one wants to ban anglers yet will run the risk of being banned off the water and ruin it for 60 or 70 other anglers who take note . Can we please put this in the weeklies and monthly to remind anglers about these nets are illegal its simply not one rule for one and another rule for the others .

You can legally use lead of any sizes in Ireland, - there are more swans there than we've got sparrers Image Image

but do these nets do as much harm to fish stocks as cormorants, otters and mink i doubt it but why some can get away with it others will follow .
