It used to be a popular match venue The Sankey up to about 5 or 6 years ago, very few anglers bother with it now!! It got hammered by cormmorants which did some serious damage to fish stocks.I havent heard of any recent match results or form for the Sankey for a good while lee,but i can tell you how we used to fish it...... i have fished two matches in the sankey valley park, its about 13mtrs wide and most pegs have stick ups or sedges across which used to have a lot of tench 2lb-4lb and matches were nearly always won with them 15-20lb regularly, needed proper gear to get them out tho !! there were also some very big carp which occasionaly got caught.there were also plenty of bream, skimmers and roach,pinkie/maggot over groundbait was the method for them....and lastly there used to be quite a few eels,my team mate carl lowe i think won a match there with them fishing chopped worm down the track with a flat/lollipop float, must of been 10 years ago !!!!!
The Hump used to be the most consistent pegs for tench and the early pegs on the bend best for bream and skimmers. There are some long walks towards the bottom of the park but you can use the very wide CYCLE track which is about 2 meters away from the canal and many an expensive pole has bit the dust there

Lee, there is an upper pound section of the Sankey canal further up at Newton le Willows. Same tactics work there mate but there are more caster fish. You need to draw near the Hospital on the "Mucky Mountains" you will catch bream and roach and maybe an odd tench, there are also some big Ide....caster job mate

Dodge, Full moon and strong eastery wind...it was never going to be brilliant.
I had an absolutely brilliant day, with no pools money it was all about enjoying it and making a good laugh.
Seemed like there were a few fish there and i'd like to have another crack when it warms up.

Decided i need a change mate.
I've been with the lads for over two years and really enjoyed it, they have helped me out a lot with running matches and for that i'm truly grateful, but now it's time to move on.
