There has always been something special in the good old days about fishing a River or Canal Championship whether it was the great big trophy or the expect 100 or 200 hundred anglers all wanting to get there hands on the trophy. matches like the Nene championship Welland championship were almost as good as winning the nationals back then .The Trent champs Thames you name it most venues had there own Title
This weekend i fished the The Wreake Championship it used to be on the River Wreake but with everything access lack of water in the river the fish stocks have almost vanished . So the Wreake Angling club decided to move there own fishing to canals and have also brought a lake now and have started to run the Wreake canal championships and over the last few years its been growing. Canals are not everyone's cup of tea but with it having a Title the only thing missing was the trophies. well this year a tackle shop owner Mr Paul Cooper changed that by sponsoring the top three individuals with a great looking trophy and it was great to see.Anglers are quick to find fault with competition organisers and the lack of money .well i can tell you everyone will want one of these trophies next year for sure
Well done Paul for making a Championship feel like a Championship
