Exactly 40 years ago we had to beat Poland at Wembley to qualify--and what happened, Brain Clough was the "expert" in the TV studio and he said "just sit back and the goals will go in--their keeper is a clown.
Whay happened?/ Tomaseski played out of his skin, and stopped every thing we threw at him, in the second half Norman Hunter crappity smack up and lost the ball on the halfway line, and Gadanski ran though and hit the ball towards Peter Shilton who decided to dive over it as it went in the net. we did manage to equalise-but it wasnt enough and we failed to qualify for the 1974 World cup,
And Cloughy had taked hinmself out of the England job as Ramsey was sacked.

Different situation alltogether this time around as Poland are shite and have already been eliminated , thing is England will qualify but be totally out of there depth with the worlds big boys in Brazil despite a media frenzee hypefest of "we can do it " ......

We didnt qualify for the 1978 one either--That T**t Don Revie had been given the job, but he found that International teams wernt so easy to bribe, and when he realsied were wernt gonna qualify, he buggered off to line his pockets with the Arabs, pity he didnt do that at least a year sooner, we might have had a chance of qualifying then.
