Most of the info on the angler's mail results page is correct.  One of the traditional big river championships - I believe it's been running since the 1930s.

68 fished - sections used being Kempston, Biddenham, Bromham and Oakley College farm.

results were dominated by catches of roach and dace, rather than the chub weights of a few years ago.
Top 4 weights from Kempston - top 3 from the shallows below the mill bridge.

1.  Paul Caton - 23:11 of mainly dace on whip & caster.
2.  Chris Roberts  - 21:10 of roach, dace & perch on whip, stick and maggot
3.  Alex Graham - 19:11 of roach and dace on whip, wag and caster
4.  Steve Clarke - 19:7 of mainly roach on casters & tares
5.  James Drakulic - 16:15 of mainly perch on chop worm

Some sections were patchy - but most were won with double figures.
The trophy will be renamed the Paul Caton annual benevolent ... that's his 3rd win in four years - he only came 3rd last year!!!

Some really good river fishing on the Great Ouse above Bedford - rather different to the lower river in character.

many thanks to the organisers ... and to all the contributors which made the amount raised for the Bedford hospital charity over £800.   Personal interest in this as my late grandmother and my father have had brilliant care at that hospital.
