Well it couldn't of gone better for us to be fair and i'm going to start off with how chuffed i am for ropas who's been missing for sometime great performance on the day and carried a blank  :o :o Image Image
ANGLING TRUST WINTER LEAGUE WINNERS 2013

Image

BRILLIANT BUNCH OF LADS AS WELL Image Image
scruffy northerners  Image Image Image
the week started off with a little panic as the man behind the scenes Roger Wakenshaw who had taken the time to look after us from day one had waited to see how we would approach the venue before stepping in with ideas but the lack of fish was a worry as it started to look like big fish or bust as you have seen on prievous posts i was quite happy that the lads had got back into feeder fishing and their termial tackle spot on none of this silly hook lengths as the final approach roger who knows more about the tidal trent and tides than the rest of us put together brought up the float rod waggler stick and possible the pole  Image Image this shocked one or two lads but more and more small roach ,dace and bleack had started to show and the tide would be hurrendous on the day and with the temps up in the 70c Roger didn't think the big fish would play ball  Image Image so the lads had a final meeting but the lads that had the confidence in the big fish ares would stick with it for the first hour or longer if they had caught others would give less time and more time trying to catch a fish or even a bite
at the draw Roger was there bright and early he had a peg for peg map which i called the extra man  ;)he then took time with each and every member of the team telling them where to fish and how long to give it on each line  most important  ;) ;)
after the lads went off to the their pegs Roger said to me its a average team draw but we had missed a lot a of really bad individual pegs :) :) :) :) and these are fishless
well off we went bank runners in place as i thought phone were not permitted  ::) ::) how wrong was that as the first section we got too most were on there phones and body language told me that straight away it was fishing pants the tide was a little later and had only just started pulling off  Image Image Image
none of our lads had caught much and Dorking had balled it and most had caught a Bleak or small roach  Image Image Imagewe then started to pick up on this and a good job as it wouldn't of lasted long with the tide running out  Image Image Des shipp was catching a roach every put in while all around were biteless our man Nick moss soon picked it up with some encouragement and before we left he was catching bleak and dace job done as Darren cox below had still stuck to the feeder although these pegs are some of the no no's
blistering hot it was getting on for dinner and things had slowed right down the tide was also at its lowest level time for the tidal gods to kind  Image Image Image
i bumped into lloydy doing a fine job as well for maver midlands you couldn't call it bank running more like a stroll with pedro on tow as well we thought it was time for abreak so we mugged lloydy to come with us  Image Image it didn't take a lot

   Image

Image Image Image Image
and with four big lads it was off for a cold lager or two  Image Image and a spot of lunch
endless phone calls up one minute  Image and down the next Image Image

Image

in fairness Lloydy didn't eat all the chips but they were lovely homemade door stoppers ;) so he just dribbled a bit  Image Image Image

after endless more phone calls midland maver had bagged a few bonus fish andi had started to think we needed a few ourselves  Image Image Image Image
so it was off to worsthorpe just hoping we'd got all three catches a phone call that Lloydy had taken had said the lad at the begining of the section had either 1 or 3 barbel our lad was on B1  Image Image another call rob parker down stream had 12 fish bites and bobs  Image Image and we had thought that our lad on A1 had also caught as the bailif had said our lad was catching on a bolo  Image Image Image  a bit of a panic as our lad hadn't got a pole or a bolo rod  Image Image he was sitting on a barbel area  Image Image Image as we arrived at his peg  Image Image Image he had not had a single bite no one had in around him apart from Wil Raisin 20 fry  Image Imagewe looked around his peg and spotted a few so we said just have ago if Wil is doing it he's thinking of one thing and one thing only POINTS
with no kit to talk about the simplest rig was set up tied to the top end of a float rod lucky a small enough rig was found and half a pinkie was used as bait  Image Image Image tense momments followed  Image Image Image Image then he caught one  Image Image then another and another  Image Imageandended up with 20 plus  Image that was all ten anglers that had caught on the day how they ever worked out the weight of those fish as Wil weighed 30 in for 30grms and Gaz weighed 20 in for 10grms and another angler weighed 2 in for 20grms  :D :D :D still it didn't matter we had points from the worst section in the match  Image Image Image so it was a race back who had what how many points  Image Image Image it was a nightmare no signal  Image Image Imagethen the computer could only do high points so everything changed  Image Image Image Image Image it was starting to get to me so i crossed the road at the pub and walked until i had a signal  Image Image they soon started coming in half ways top 3s 12,10,10,8,8,7 the only bad points was a 3  :) :) :) wasit enough so started talking and listening to other teams boy it was close ikept two points back from everyone  Image Image Image as i'm sure they did the same
but when Bob read the results out from the bottom to the top i began to think we'd missed out as 8th had 50 odd points and we'd got 75  Image Image Image Image Image then he called out starlets i knew we had a chance  Image Image but when he called out Dorking  Image Image Image 3rd that was it i didn't care thats why you practice thats why you can't take anything for granted
2nd it was Leicester sensas  Image Image Image
was it my strongest team Yes for this event it was the practice that counted i left some top anglers out myself included but i know they were right behind my choice and thats what makes a good team  Image Image Image

Image
the only downer was Dorking never hung around at the end to encourage the other teams only five of the team stayed for there photography for 3rd place  Image Image a lot of teams are out there that would of loved a placing and a team photo in the press just think about it Dorking if these other teams didn't compete you wouldn't be as good as you are  ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
must say diddy shook everyones hand ;)

Brilliant result for your lads Joffie....Well done Image Image Great result and a rich reward for all the lads hard work. Thinking anglers with bottle was what was needed, and your lads (and Ropas) showed they had it all. As for Dorking, their sponsors should be really impressed with their after match performance Image Image

Thanks Joff, too many egos in top flight match fishing im afraid not just team but also individual. I was next to your man who has his arm around Nicky Moss in the photo and we had a laugh during the match regarding a particular team and egos, I must have been right in what I was saying :D :D

Danny its all kicking off because some outsider has won on a very poor river and shown some teams up !!! isn't that what its all about Ropas boys never moaned just got on with it perhaps joined in with some banter along the forum lines
we practice and practice hard to beat the likes of Starlets Dorking and Barnsley we have to wear as these top teams can afford two or three days off work just won't happen in the working class teams encouragement is what's needed if you didn't have the working class teams where would the top boys be and who would they fish against i noticed there is are no photo's of the best team in the country coming 3rd  Image Image Image Image

Joff as a working class angler I understand how much harder you have to work to get results being lucky enough to fish for starlets its hard to practice and put as much time is the other lads but its results like this that are good for team fishing as it proves the "top" teams can be beat IMO all teams that fish the final are top teams and have been for a long time, it's a shame that the governing body don't seem to be helping much though with the future of team fishing >:(
Perhaps the "top" teams were beat before the final, I heard so many anglers slating the venue about how bad the river was fishing it was clear they didn't want to be there, with that attitude your gone.

Imagequite agree mate
i just hope darren cox's does ok at the weekend in the fisho as he put the team first Image whereas most would've said no chance i'm practicing at cudmore
what worries me is the commercial teams haven't done well this year how much influence will that have on next year

still the Angling trust did say they are disappointed in the interest for the new commercial National so it might be a sign that commercial anglers would rather keep to individual matches Image

Clearly no mention of mobile phones as far as I can see.

I don't know how you construe this rule though; it may/may not cover your point.

Rule 18. A competitor must not cause annoyance to, or seek to interfere with another competitor during the course of a match.

I did cover the Lower Trent area last year as far as results go, that is when I could get them, try as I might there was some that I couldn't get. I had the Scunthope results on a weekly basis thanks to Bob Pearson but only the odd Lincoln one.

It is fair to say that looking back, the venue did fish a lot better this time last year; there were certainly fish to be caught (roach) on waggler. There was a lot more bream and skimmers as well but they were feeding on all river venues if you remember.

We did have regular rain this time last summer though and I'm sure that kept the river fresh. I am an outsider looking in here but all these points need consideration to keep the topic fair and not get it out of proportion.

Know the old NFA rules mobiles are not permitted during the course of the National  and looking at the booklet sent out by the Angling Trust this year looks like we should be using the same rules
Yet so many anglers used them  :-/ :-/ if this permitted can we have a change in the rule book or at least tell us before the match starts  Image
