Going back to Dick, I met him many years ago when I fished for Yale in the Soar Valley Winter League. Didn't get Him for a while due to his wicked humour !!!! We became good friends and had a few beers together in those days. (not anymore !) Anyway He ended up leaving the river scene years ago to fish Makins
I think He has packed in now and just goes down the football to watch Leicester city. Not spoken to Him for over ten years, just lost touch. Top river angler and excellent bream angler in His time. I dont think He works in the trade anymore neither.
Maybe Arch knows more ?

What makes lads pack in all together?? Been fishing since I was 5 years old and nearly every single day I will do something to do with fishing, even if its just reading an old Match fishing on the "throne". .Must admit that the rig making & hook tying is a bit of a chore nowadays

No i think thats about it Richie.
I don't see anyone anymore, the last person i did see was Chalky White, and that was out walking the dog. I always seem to remember Dick sorting out a method on the Soar which envolved G/B and lots of Hemp. Then run a red maggot over the top. I couldn't get it to work as well as most of the Yale lads. (But then I couldn't get most things to work on the Soar anyway) I think we/they won the SVWL that year with it. Possibly the last time they did win it.
I also struggled with his humour.
Dick fished alot at Willersley, long before the Carpers moved in, when the matches were all a sell out. Good times.
He'd always got the latest Browning pole IIRC.
