Angling Trust publishes 'Dossier of Destruction' detailing impact of cormorants
Thank you to everyone who has sent us information about the impact of cormorants and goosanders on their fisheries over the past couple of years. We have now collated all this information into an impact report which we have published this week. We have sent it to the Fisheries Minister and MPs from all parties who have supported our three-year campaign to change the bureaucratic and inadequate licensing regime governing the control of cormorants and goosanders. Severn Barrage Success for Salter
Three weeks ago, the Angling Trust's Campaigns Co-ordinator Martin Salter gave a typically forthright performance to the select committee looking into the proposals for a Severn Barrage which are being spearheaded by Peter Hain MP and a consortium called Hafren Power. It seems that MPs on the committee have heeded his warning to them that Hafren Power's proposals lack any meaningful details and that they have completely failed to provide any evidence regarding the environmental impact of the barrage, despite claims in the media by Hain that the turbines are 'fish friendly'.
Energy Minister Greg Barker has ruled out a bill before the next general election and one committee member, Labour MP John Robertson, said the amount of information provided by Hafren Power, was "embarrassing". He told the minister: "I'm surprised you haven't just thrown it out completely". It seems the tide is turning in favour of protection for the many marine and migratory fish that inhabit the Severn Estuary.

Support the campaign for reform of farm payments
Pollution from agriculture is recognised as being one of the most damaging impacts on our rivers and water ways and yet farmers are being paid subsidies by us taxpayers. We need to reform the way farmers are paid to ensure that our rivers are protected so that producing our food doesn't kill our fish. The European Parliament will be voting on these reforms shortly and it is important that we have our say as anglers. Join in this campaign to make sure that your MEP knows how you feel about protecting our rivers. All you have to do is click HERE, enter your name, postcode and e-mail address and it will send your MEP an e-mail.
Thank you for your support. Please spread the word to other anglers and don't forget to direct anyone who is not a member of the Angling Trust and Fish Legal to the summary of our recent achievements which can be found HERE
