im from a little island off the kent coast. what about you guys where are you all from.

from where i am there aint really much of a canal/river match scene due to the lack of canals/rivers that are fishable so most people end up doing the same old commercial matches where the fish have no lips and are so use to being caught they virtually jump in your keep net. which annoys me so i fish small little areas that i know of which hold roach rudd and perch but also some carp and nice tench.

would love to get a taste of the canal/river match scene one day.

Hi Gale - you'll note from the details under my avatar I'm from Walsall in the West Midlands

As well as the commies that have sprung up over the last 20 years, there's plenty of canals round here to 'go at' - the local BCN (Birmingham Canal Navigations - Bham has more miles of canal than Venice ;)), and within 10 mile radius we can reach the Staffs Worcs, The Trent & Mersey and the Shropshire Union

Fortunately within 30 miles weve also got the Severn to the west and the Trent to the north east as well as several lesser known smaller rivers Image

Hello Gale.
Good to hear from you and that little island may be IOS..?
I am on of the fewer southern representaives on this site but all the posts are good fun and TK does a great job with the 'all our yesterdays' and constant quiz on the subjects posted.
I am more local to you and now based outside of Kent but did spend many years there recently fishing the local match circuit in mostly team events.
Pleased to try to help with suggestions on where to go local to you.
My first love in matches has always been Rivers/canals
and then any still water or commercial fishing for 'silvers'.
No good at the carp scene and shy away from it.

Canal fishing
great but you have to travel to the Royal Military Canal
Either the Hythe end (best) or Rye.
All mostly day ticket and with the correct approach can be great fishing.Like anything pick the right swims and tactics and the results can be rewarding.(Can fwd info at your request).
Also rivers good like the Medway and Rother.Again a more delicate approach and tougher in the winter.

Well thats a start.
Good to have you interested so tell us more about yourself.
Tight Lines.
WOC.

well nice to meet you all.

yeah wileyoldcampaigner its certainly the little cess pit know as sheppey. Yeah i know about the RMC but its hard for me to plan when i can get out because of work etc. The medway at the moment seems to be a bit difficult due to associations taking on stretches etc. never even tried the stour at canterbury due to not knowing the play at all (apart from a good night out).

At the mo i am fishing on a farm dyke mainly which is run by a small charity which is members only and they have special needs and disabled kids come to learn to fish etc we all help/coach/make ourselves look like we know what we are talking about to help the kids. its full of roach rudd tench and a few carp. we are hoping to get some bream in there this year too with a little help of our fundraising and the EA.

I am one of these people that grew up on sea fishing ( being as i live on an island kinda makes it a given that we all learn to sea fish) then when our first lakes opened i had a bash at carping. Then i see all these people holding these bloody great long things and catching a fair few fish whilst doing so. So i watched got intrigued bought a pole and been away from there. still do a bit of carping cuz unfortunately the in laws like it so i break the old buzzers out maybe twice a year to keep them sweet.

and yeah thats about it for me.

Gale,
good to read your reply and Sheppey not that bad after all...you tell me.
Great to know that you like 'proper fishing'.
Winter fishing on a lake/commercial for silvers cannot be beat.
The likes of the canal and rivers like medway/rother etc are tough and wait for the Summer for these.
Stour super river at Grove ferry/Plucks Gutter but hard to get on and not much day ticket water, all controlled by Canterbury and dist AA.
Try Monk lakes complex nr Maidstone. The 'Bridges' lake good for silvers on variety methods.
Also look into going to 'Frant Lakes' nr Tunbridge Wells.
I have beeen there loads and great facilities and all lakes have lots proper fish in.
I hope to fish a match on 'snags' in mid Feb.silvers only and that will be ..hopefully..good.
Keep going and keep in touch.
