Results of Sensas Challenge 2012
Gloucester Canal
17/ 18 March
Despite the canal flowing the wrong way for the entire weekend. A result of high tides, the Gloucester canal still produced some great performances over this competitive weekend.
Fished to international rules the 2 day event saw local aces Daiwa Gordon league romp home and book their place in the European final this October with a superb 2 day points total of 28 pts well ahead of nearest rivals Kamasan Starlets on 33.
Bream played the biggest role over the two days and on day one it was Barnsley’s and England International U22 James Dent who took 6 bream from peg 64 on Hempstead for 16lb 14oz to take top honours.
Catch of the day was a superb 10lb 11oz of bleak from unfancied peg 3 on the Sainsbury’s stretch of the Canal.
Day two saw a great battle between Barnsley’s Lee Kerry and Kamasan Starlets Danny Ashington, again on the 60s on Hempstead, both had won their sections on day 1 and both were looking to take the Individual gold medal.
Lee just edged the match with 21.14 beating Danny with 20.14, again it was pole caught bream on bunches of bloodworm that produced the fish.

Er no Joff, 3 the same that fish every year. I thought that a top team like leicester sensas would have being able to field a couple of teams and support there sponsor or was all you lads too busy practicing for the winter league semi final the same as some of the other top teams in the country

Joff as far as I am aware Nigel fished in 1 of the teams because they were short. I can assure you that the recession and the state team fishing is in is affecting all the top teams and anglers

We weren't able to field a team in the sensas challenge this year because of the semi dates being so late. Really disappointed to be honest as its a great event. We just had to make the decision what to fish as we don't have a big enough squad of committed anglers to fish both events! Will probably be the same when the nationals etc roll around in september! Hate to moan but team fishing is really on the brink at the moment
Quite upsetting to be honest

My favourite weekend of year but we couldn't get a team ( I had to work Saturday) and we had committed to team match Sunday but these events should take preference in my opinion, don't think the venue chosen helped

Lloydy I actually think the venue is very good for this type of competition, I would obviously say this cos I have drew well and caught some fish however it is challengeing and there always seems to be something you can try to get a bite, it is a tactical venue which is why Gordon league are so hard to beat they know it so well and how to approach every peg.
I had a long chat with will raison at the big one show last week and we got onto the state of team fishing and he is under the same impression as all of us, cannot see how it will improve with the recession, travelling and amount of hard work for little reward, this is from a proffessional angler so what chance does the normal working bloke stand ??

Look at the cost to fish uk champs (over subscribed), fisho (over subscribed), everyone has gone individual glory hunting mate. Look at the top teams struggling to field winterleague teams even tho their anglers probably travel more than anyone

quite agree danny but the funny thing is around this area i can get between 40 and 50 anglers most weeks .i'm sure its the size of teams yet still even with pairs some anglers are still not committed to seeing out the set amount of matches
business is good for me at the moment and i'm glad i can say that i know at any point this can change for the worse i have to be on the ball if i miss a deal then that's profit lost that's how thin the line is out there
so when it comes to fishing and sorting a squad out its very hard to get motivated as theses lads are on the other side of the spectrum where work is hard to find
its no good for us or the sponsor if we can't compete at top level the weekend would of cost a £1000 pounds for five anglers with over night accommodation food bait and pools we all want to fish but unfortunately its not possible at theses times
its costing the same to go to Holland for a week and that's five of us but that's not including fuel pools and bait but it will feel like a holiday as well
sensas know our position we are in at the moment and we go back a long way with them this year we have asked for nothing off them and haven't expected anything off them apart from time to sort out our future we are going to give it one last try this coming season and pin point certain competitions we just can't fish them all anymore

Well done Danny , another top performance !
The Sensas Final is my favourite weekend of the year and one match that I wouldn't want to miss along with the National and World Club Champs qualifier. The Sensas French Final that the teams hope to qualify for is one of the most prestigious matches in Europe.
Unfortunately a lot of teams couldn't make the Gloucester Canal this year due to the winter league semi final commitments and had to make a decision on where to focus their attention.
Luckily for Starlets our winter league semi happens to take place on the Gloucester Canal

dazzala i think with the results from the sensas weekend it will be a walk in the park for your lads
you are very fortunate to have such a team of stars so most of theses competitions are easily accessed
for us this year i love to do well at evesham ive really been taken by the organization of the weekend and would love to fish all three days
and of course the other one is the site championship
now that is one to win
