Sorry Lads, a bit of Trumpet blowing! But here's the results from the final Upper Thames Winter League match fished last Sunday, Its the report I sent into Match Fishing magazine.
AT Upper Thames Winter League 6th & Final Round
Venue: Bristol Avon at Chippenham and Melksham
11/12/2011. 7 teams of 10
The Final round was fished a week later than it should have been, due to a venue cancellation earlier in the season, but due to the unseasonably mild weather the venue fished fairly well, with the biggest winning weight of the series.
The angler to catch this was Garbolino Blackmore vale’s Richard Chave, who caught 20 chub on the pole from a peg at Beanacre on the Melksham water. Rich had a slow start catching about 20 roach on the pinkie before his first bite from a chub. 2 hooklengths later it was; chub 2 - Chavey 0. But a swap to double maggot on his heaver chopped worm rig resulted in 4 chub in the next 4 casts on a 14.5M pole to a tree on the far bank. By the end of the 5 hours Rich had caught another 16 chub to total 34lb 7oz
In second place was Ian Shepherd of Daiwa Gordon League who was pegged on Melksham’s Scotland road stretch and caught a beautiful net of roach, skimmers and hybrids on the pole with punched bread totalling 16lb 14oz. Ian went off to a flying start, having a net fish almost every run through for the first hour, accumulating around 10lb in that time.
In Third Place was another Gordon League Angler, Alan ‘end peg’ Jones, who like his team mate got off to a flying start with 3 chub on the pole in the first 3 casts! For the majority of his weight, Alan caught one more chub and a few perch on chopped worm to weigh 8lb 14oz
Chub also featured in forth placed Alan Brown’s net of 8lb 11oz. Alan was pegged in the line of trees at Chippenham and was the top weight from that end of the river.
