Dear Marjorie,

I don’t normally write to  Agony Aunt pages but last night, when I looked down at the wreckage of my tackle my wife said something needed to be done and gave me your address.

The problem is I’ve lost my confidence.

I cannot seem to tell the difference between a sqatt and a pinkie.

I know that one is smaller than the other but I can’t remember which way round it is.
Is it that important ?

I mean, when you get right down to it does size really matter ?

Last week on the Wyrley & Essington Canal in the district Of Pelsall , or thereabouts,  I was struck with a great sense of panic.

Not only did I not know whether to fish bread or eat my sandwiches, but I couldn’t remember if I'd put tea or coffee in my flask.

I came over all of a fluster, if you know what I mean.  Am I the only one ?

The thing is you see,  5 hours in the driving rain, feezin’ your knackers off is no way treat any tackle.

I’ve bought some Yacht Varnish and thought this might do the trick. What do you think ?

It says on the tin, surfaces must be sound, clean, dry and free from grease or grime. Remove any flaking and fill any cracks. It does sound a bit of a job for an old box.

Also, special attention must be paid to any surfaces originating from pre-1960 as these may contain harmful lead.

I only use Preston Stotz  now,  but have used other substances in the past and I was born in 1957.

I am just not sure what to do. Can you help ?

Yours sincerely
