Trent Championships
Mention of some of the Trent experts of days gone by got me to thinking about the Trent Championships - as won by Mr Kingfisher no less! The excitement of those matches - waiting for your section notification to come through, with the HQ that you had to attend to make your draw, was brilliant. And all for a FOUR hour match. From memory the year that Kingfisher won there was a bit of a caster shortage due to blackfly. I got let down and had to make do with half a gallon of bronze maggots and some bronze pinkies. I tried to fish the same as if I was using casters but obviously it wasn't the same, but in the last 15 minutes I had roach crawling up the rod, there were so many in the swim I was foul hooking them! Didn't do enough to trouble the scorers very much, and forgot all about it once casters were available again... A few years later, along came a guy called Dave Thomas... and the rest is history.
