Dynamite Baits-backed ace takes victory in the first Angling Trust/ British Waterway competition.
The first Angling Trust/British Waterways Stillwater Championship has been won by Dynamite Baits angler Sean Huggins, following a troubled final that saw a last-minute change of venue.
Due to be held at Boddington Reservoir in the West Midlands, low water levels at the fishery forced a switch to nearby Blythe Fisheries near Solihull.
It was a move that saw a number of finalists apprehensive about what the day would hold – especially given gale force winds and a large drop in overnight temperature leading to the match.
On the day though, fishing Willow pool at the venue from peg number 6 it was Leicestershire-based Sean Huggins that proved victorious, weighing in 54lb 7oz of fish. Most of Sean’s catch was taken from down the edge on both his left and right-hand-side margins, including a 14lb carp.
The weight saw Sean beat second place Garbolino/ Bait-Tech angler Grant Albutt by just over 6lb to lift the new trophy and take home a cheque for £3k.
Top three results
1st Sean Huggins (Dynamite Baits) 55lb 7oz from Willow Pool peg 6- £3,000
2nd Grant Albutt (Garbolino/ Bait-Tech) 48lb 3oz from Willow Pool peg 4 - £1,258
3rd Brian Clarke (Banbury Gunsmiths) 37lb from Bridge Pool peg 10 - £662
