The winner of a match has failed to have his huge double-ton total weighed after his catch included individual specimens that bottomed out the official match scales.
Fishing an Angling Trust Winter League practice session at Milton Keynes Angling Association’s Furzton lake, angler Richard Taylor is estimated to have caught well over 250lb of fish but was credited with just 195lb due to three of his fish weighing far in excess of the 20lb limit of the organiser's scales.
Made up of just 13 carp, the huge weight of the haul was boosted by the capture of three carp well in excess of 20lb each, catching the event organisers by surprise. The loss of around 50lb still gave the Preston Innovations DELCAC team member a comfortable win, but also places the size of the three specimens at well over 30lb each – a haul any specimen angler would be proud of.
Fishing the feeder with mini boilie on the hook to catch his impressive weight, it wasn’t just Richard who got amongst the bigger specimens though. Second placed Maver Bait-Tech Boston angler Phil Chesterton who weighed in 64lb of carp and bream lost two very big specimens at the net, which he estimated were both around the 30lb mark.
Speaking about the competition, match organiser Ken Wade said: "It was a really good match with some very big fish caught and I’ll will be bringing some bigger scales for this Sunday's final."
