right, been invited by some relatives who have a caravan at severn caravan park in welshpool to go down on the Aug bank hol weekend for a few days. The park as a pond and 3 miles on the river. So as not to be rude im going to go but am going to fish the river. Im not sure what its like to get bait (maggy and caster) down there so what would you recomend i use for bait on the river and what method (feeder, pole or rod & float?) , what speices would i be looking at catching on the severn in welsh pool?
thanks

Won me first ever match at Newtown, near Welshpool on the Severn. Just fished stick and caster and had 17 lb odd of dace plus a chub of around 4 lb. Hooked a salmon that went water walking. That was about 90 years ago though

Blimey Bill, I didnt realise you were a late starter in the match world, that would have put you in your late forties at a guess?

theres a tacle shop in newtown where you can get your bait, at one end of the caravan park by the bridge theres a small wier but if the waters a bit low you could try newtown park water on day ticket from the tackle shop for some nice grayling, also there are some big eels on the site stretch, i had one about 3 to 4lb.a while ago. supposed to be some nice chub by the wier but never caught one from there.

on the river i used the feeder by the wier and i dont think it was a very big pool . if you do go into newtown and fish it go over the bridge by the carpark and go to the left as that it where the deeper water is for the grayling and some very nice ones aswell atleast up to 2lb and some bigger
