Cashmores Match7 2011- the Carp King strikes again
KOD ....... hurrry up
Cashmores Match7 2011- the Carp King strikes again
Part one then................
A beautiful morning, coupled with a lovely trip through northern bucolic Worcestershire saw a severely depleted Cashmores turnout for this one, with one or two ‘lost’ on route.
Arriving with Heinzer after a bit of enforced ‘back tracking’ ourselves, we were greeted by ‘Mr Clubman of the Year’, the one and only KOD who’d not only pegged out but had also got his treasurer’s hat on - cheers KOD
Info on the venue was scant - two pools in lovely tranquil settings, with 14 (tight) pegs on the upper and 17 on the lower pool. 20 foot deep in places….and not a lot else known.
KOD had pegged 5 on the top and 11 on the bottom.
Draw time and the 3 walking wounded on the top pool nearest the car park were joined by Heinzer whilst the rest of us traipsed off to the lower pool.
Now although I didn’t fancy the walk (nowt unusual there then), I was ‘secretly glad I was on 8 and had avoided pegs 15 and 16 which although they looked decent pegs with 16 in the corner, were in quite a cool shade.
Here they are
Not knowing really what to expect I’d come armed with pellets, meat, corn and the obligatory get out of jail baits of mag and caster.
Peg 8 daint look too bad - well it looked quite decent really - a nice overhanging bush to my right.
Only disappointment was that I’d also intended chucking the wag and what had a I got out infront of me at about 12 mtrs? A rusty looking aerator that I’m sure must have last seen ‘action’ back in 1927 - ah well, get on with it.
Although there was little evidence of fish movement - despite KOD reporting that the margins clouded up when he pegged out - hopes on that bottom pool must have lifted a little when MrV shouted out that he’d hooked a small carp on a bare hook whilst plumbing up/testing shotting.
Talking of plumbing up, I had almost 3ft in the margin of my bush, and 7 ft and going away at the end of the bush on my top 4. It went away, deeper and deeper up to 10 mtrs - I hadn’t a rig deep enough, but didn’t feel it was necessary as it was a beautiful sunny morning and I honestly believed the fish would be up in the upper layers out there - certainly no deeper than my ‘deep rig’ to the edge of the bush……………….had I read it right?
As I checked the shotting of one of my rigs, I didn’t get a full blown bite like MrV, but I had a definite indication. Were we finally going bag up, or what?
The off and lines fed. First put in and I’m into a fish. Now this is on my light (2.2lb) silvers rig. After a nervous titanic battle, carp no 1 is in the net.

What do ya mean - I did, I had a carp first put in on my silvers rig - honest
And it was a nervous battle - first fish to avoid the dreaded DNW is always a nervous affair - it could have come off at any time

Part 2..............
Time rolls on but bite two doesn’t materialise as I watch first Richard C and then HaHa on the far bank both net (and lose) fish.
Here they are (if you look closely)
I’m really struggling for a bite along with both Abuman and MrV to my rght along our side of the pool.
But it’s a lovely morning, considerably warmer for us in the sun than that forecasted on the 1am BBC News
A bit of a commotion across the pool as KOD snares a crayfish, which promptly crawls out of his keepnet to freedom.
I’m really struggling for another bite when there’s a commotion to my left.
Turning round, this horrible specimen is making it’s way towards me…………
Getting closer……….
And closer................
But it’s alright, it’s only Cotti with another crafish
.
Then out of the blue, I snare carp no2 - again on that light rig which is followed by Abuman to my right snaring one of a similar size - it’s game on .

Can you weigh them crayfish in then

Can you weigh them crayfish in then
Nope Simps - think KOD must have wanted to save it and take it home for his tea.............
Afterall it was the size of a lobster, and when it escaped it terrorised all anglers on that far bank for the rest of the match with its snaping claws
Cashmores Match7 2011- the Carp King strikes again
Part 3...........
A look on the wag and a beastie is hooked and played ……………avoiding the rusty obstacle out in front of me, turning him away from the bush to my right …………5 mins on and whilst he’s now to my right I lose him - that would have been worth a few curse points
Losing that fish almost appeared to be an omen, because remember that warm sunny morning?
Well 5 minutes later, storm clouds gathered to our rear. On with bib & brace and coat, up goes the brolly as it hisses down for the next half hour.
Brolly down and more fish are showing on the far side of the pool, but not all see the keepnet as they are lost.
Nowt is happening on ourside so i stretch the legs and have a gander at what's happening on the top pool
Tommy 'the magician' Cooper has snared a fish or two, but Heinzer is having a grueller too
Having said that Brambles is reported as 'walking it'
Back to my peg and I manage to snare carp no 3, but I’m in trouble as Abuman now reports he’s got 4. That lost fish is going to cost me dear I think to myself.
MrV along our bank has been struggling too, but with an hour or so to go, and with a modification of tactics, moves up the gears and starts hitting, and netting fish on his 12ft+ deep rig……………..look’s like my thoughts of them being ‘up in the water’ was dead wrong as he starts catching hard on the deck.
To be concluded..............
