cashmores match 6
cashmores match 6
Well here’s my take - and excuses - recorded for posterity…………..
I’d set a bit of a precedent here, booking this venue by demand, for the forth year running. Unusual for me, but to be honest I ‘like’ the place, along with the fishery managers who give you no grief, allow and trust you to abide by their rules, and most importantly don’t treat ‘club anglers’ as second rate citizens.
Having said that, it was only my second visit out of the 4 bookings as I’d obviously screwed up previous fixtures lists by allowing them to clash with my holidays!!! ::)
Last time here, back in 2009 I’d done ‘aok’ from the area I was in, catching ide shallow, whilst around me people tended to sit out for the crap.
Me being me, that was my intended tactic again - just for the sport and day out really - as I knew deep down that a netful of ide wouldn’t compete with a winning net of crap……………..but who gives a hoot.
There was another match already in progress on the canal, which had kicked off early so they could slope off and cheers Bill’s and Budgie’s team on later that afternoon, being cup final day.
So we’d got either 29 or 30 pegs between the 21 of us who’d turned up.
The fishery manager told me he’d pegged two, left one out to give nearly all a spare peg to one side or the other……….that was apart from 2 or 3 areas which didn’t have a spare peg.
Draw made…………guess what I copped for!!!!!
Excuse no 1 coming up………….
Yep I was flanked either side, with no spare peg for me, by Abuman and Heinzer
Ah well get on with it.
The pegs we were allocated on the canal were spread along a great ‘S’ shape.
Setting up, it was noticeable to those of us on our ‘straight’ as we faced the anglers of the other match, that nowt was being caught.
To be honest, I’d got half a dozen or more anglers in view on that other section of the canal opposite and I never saw one of ‘em catch a fish all match!!!!!!!!!!!
The off and lines fed.
Well I got off to a flyer with two small barbel - 3/4lb a piece - in my first two put ins. But then nowt
As time ticked on it was obvious that KOD on the end peg, flanked to his right by Millie, then a spare peg then Abuman, myself and Heinzer ‘were all struggling having odd fish. We’d hadn’t got a clue how the rest of the pool was fishing, although we knew Terry Turnip was having a few, because we had our backs to the rest of the members…………..
Time to use excuse no2?
Go one then…………
It blew a bloody Hooley down our small section all match. This may have affected all of our presentations - who knows? Perhaps the water was slightly chilled, making them ‘move off’ out of that section? Who knows? It was certainly shallower than the section I'd fished before.........
All I know is that we struggled like Billie Ho - I couldn’t even scrat silvers on some mag I’d ponced off Bullah (ta mate).
Never had a bite on pellet
Never had a bite on corn
Never had a bite on caster
Match over, and as I weighed in with KOD, starting at our end I was even more amazed out how the guys to my left had struggled even more than myself - first KOD only tipped 3lb on the scales. This was followed by Millie with 5lb. Next up was Abuman - now whilst I suspected I might do 8lb, I was sure he’d done me with a carp and barbel or two. Couldn’t believe it when his tally only went 4lb.
So my 10lb odd wasn’t too bad - although Heinzer to my right dun me by 2oz with a few crap in that last hour on the meat - I hadn’t got any.
The tale of the scales round the bend tells another story though………………. ::)
Having said all that, I’d certainly give the place another bash, cuss as I said earlier ‘I like the place’
But it wont be in 2012 ……………….as we’ve got 7 ‘brand new’ pools for (some) members to criticise already booked for new next year ……… ::)
Sorry for the delay in this report ME as I jetted off to sunnier climes for a couple of weeks in the early hours of the next morning
