Grueller Match 7 - long awaited results

Well well well well……………..
14 foolish hardy gruellerites turned up for this latest event. Only missing was a 90% chance of turnup – Larry Teepot. Hope he aint still driving round Rugeley after SS mailed him directions on Fri night.
After deciding on 3 sections – 1 to 4, 6 to 10 and 11 to 16 excluding BDM’s beloved peg 13 the draw took place. Strangely, first to go were all the pegs middle difficult section. Then a whoop of delight as SS had obviously drawn peg 1 but was trying to keep it secret. Pegs came and went until the last 2 in the bag – 16 & 4.
Well knowing that 4 couldn’t probably compete under normal circumstances with 1 or 2 and having had a decent match on 16 last time out, BDM obviously wanted the later.
MrV dipped and ended on 16 whilst BDM trooped rather dejectedly and still the worse for wear off to 4.
One of those days or what???????
BDM knew that he was likely to pick a pound or two off the far side brambles but needed to try to force something else into feeding into the peg.
So on the off, a couple of cups of punch down the track, remembering that late on in the day Gerry off peg 5 had picked up a couple of roach off this line last time out.
Some very wetted GB went over at the bottom of the shelf about a metre prom the brambles. Big mag and caster firtled across to the brambles with the intent of getting those rub a dubs into a feeding frenzy for the last hour.
2 inside swims for whatever swam for the first part of the match, hopefully including a chublet or two.
Well there was only a gudgeon or two swimming on those inside lines.
News came that SS and Heinzer were catching…………..to be expected. The Wedge on 3 had snared a small chub, whilst to BDM’s right, big Geoff was still dry fishing hard across.
A quick look across at the bottom of the shelf………..another couple of gudgeon.
Then BDM realised no landing net…….!!!! Not being with it, he’d forgot to set the thing up. Was this an omen?
Back over, the no 8 lackie shot out and after a brief tussle a 4 oz a rub a dub. A few minutes later, with Sprucey now coaching BDM, the lackie shot out again. He’s mine, thought BDM shipping back……………..but no…………the b*gger woke up and 8 foot of lackie was into the brambles.
The Wedge was fairing worse………..he’d been smashed up a few times.
On with beastie tackle……….and……………no bites for him.
Nearing half way through. A look on the track line with punch. First put in a bite. A gudgeon. Second put in a bite. Another gudgeon. Third put in…….you get the idea.
Sodd it…………fill the track in with GB and squatt for those breamies and a quick stretch of the legs and a bit of fresh air.
SS and Heinzer owned up to having a few as expected. The middle section was fishing hard, but Welder had had a few bits, but rued the fact that he’d only bought half a tournie pro with him, needing an extra section or two to go alongside the bush.
Cotti on a decent roach peg, no 11, was struggling. No sign of the resident roach there, only a dozen gudgeon. The same applied to the others in the section, but MrV had got about 8oz in the net and was starting to get a few bites from bits other than gudgeon.
Well not a lot happened next for BDM. A couple of extra gudgeon. At one stage BDM must have dozed off for a minute cuss the top 3 section used on the inside line was down the bank and floating away. 10 mins to go and the get out of jail fish from off the feet put in an appearance and promptly smashed 2.10 straight through.
The Wedge snared a few more, but was admitting to have lost the battle 14 to 5.
Thank god…….the whistle. Just packed up and the scales go off and we are greeted by a hail storm……just what you want!
First to weigh, MrV on 16. Looks of disbelief as he pulls out his net. Bl**dy hell. BDM had set a new benchmark for that peg last time out and had jokingly said I did 6 off that last time, I expecting to see 12lb today off it.
Well not quite the 12, but an amazing 11.8.0.
So who want’s peg1 and who wants 16 next time out on here???? Mr V has well and truly re written the form book

Hard luck those who put in 100% effort - the BDM daint and got what he deserved. And fished, if you can call it that, like a pratt.
Well that’s the first disaster and match to forget for the BDM in 2008
It can’t get any worse…………can it?
