Fished on the Walsall canal.
46 fished.

It was with a smile of happiness that i paid out the second day's individual winner, Simon Preece was like a son and a best mate to Fred, in fact when the big fellow passed away it seemed only right that he should leave some of his fishing tackle to Simon.

When Simon broke his pole a while ago some of the sections of Fred's pole, which was made on the same mandrel, was used in place of the broken sections and Simon certainly used them to good effect on peg 58 opposite the grass bank to win the second day with 200 roach and a big perch to total 8-0-0.

individuals on day

1st Simon Preece (WB Clarke VDE) 8-0-0
2nd Mick Hatchard (Shakespeare) 7-3-0
3rd Matt Forster (Sensas NW) 7-2-0
4th Mark Taylor (Fox Match Tipton) 6-10-7
5th Scott Geens (Starlets) 6-6-14
6th Ade Shepherd (WB Clarke VDE) 6-1-4

With all the section winners from the previous day falling away it was left to Shakespeare star Rob Quinn to strike with 5-6-0 of small roach and a section win to add to his section 2nd  to total 3 pts and become the 3rd name on the trophy.

This left emerging Fox Match Tipton star Mark Taylor to settle for second on 4pts.

overall

1st Rob Quinn (Shakespeare) 3 pts
2nd Mark Taylor (Tipton) 4pts
3rd Ade Shepherd (WB Clarke VDE) 5pts (total weight 25-10-10)
4th Matt Forster (Sensas NW)  5 pts (18-4-14)
5th Neil Martin (Drennan NW) 5pts (15-12-1)
6th Darren Massey (Shakespeare) 5 pts (15-1-8)

The reason its called opposite the grass is self explanatory...

Not the most inviting looking part of the canal.

Simon is the on the 1st peg, then Ade Shepherd on 59 before Scott on 60.

Jon
After the match today you said you would have had 7lb and possibly framed if you had fished solely for small fish..

What made you sit on the caster?

Stupidity!

I sat on caster way too long hoping to snare a bream or two. Also, the joker fish were tiny to start with but got bigger after the first hour. I had no chance of winning the two-day event so i fished to win the match. Ironically, i won the section by fishing too positively whereas if i 'd just fished to win the section i'm sure i would've framed!

If it was a 50-pegger or a team match i wouldve fished differently but i had nothing to lose and only fished for 1st place. Another one to chalk up to experience...
