This is really a question for Dodge3
A couple of years ago i drew next to a Sensas North West lad (Mick Cocker) on a cold clear rock hard canal, very little was being caught until his angler started catching perch up to 4oz, After the match i asked him what he'd done differently and he told me he'd caught after putting in some "perch balls".
What are they Dodge3?

Its a brilliant method on canals when its cold, freezing and rock hard.i drew crap last sunday on the warks winter lge on dams&locks and this method worked for me to beat a few in my section who were on better pegs and had a few roach in front of them.It involves feeding very small amounts of joker in a small ball of double leam,it will never overfeed your peg and it more importantly it attracts fish into your peg with the cloud from the leam.I had 62 small perch and gudgeon for 2lb last sunday. You can catch roach and even an odd skimmer fishing this method aswell as proper billies, always fish joker on the hook tho!!

Why joker on the hook?
I would have thought bloodworm would be better for perch.

In my experience ratbag perch and gudgeon tend to gorge themselves so by feeding very little and having a cloud keeps the fish searching and hopefully competing for your hookbait thats why they will readilly take a well presented joker, with a bloodworm hookbait you can suffer from missed bites and a slower catch rate....when its rock hard mate on the waters we fish joker is nearly always superior....

makes sense mate.
Roughly what % of grey to damp leam do you use, and how much joker?

just enough grey leam mixed in so it squeezes together lightly, canals round your way are shallow so it needs to form a cloud.the joker literally a pinch the size of a thumb nail to a conker/golf ball size of leam......
im off to the pub in an hour mate

I think lots of people know about leam for perch and call it diff things depending on what part of the country you are. A mate of mine who i used to get my joker off (Jacko) swore by black peat for perch. He'd keep all his leftover bloodworm in the stuff and when they died they impregnated it to give it added attraction. Ive tried it myself with mixed results. Same goes for molehill soil which does make a nice cloud if you find a good source. Im happy using damp leam at the mo
