Here you go then ME
Well what a start to the day.
Alarm went off………….bad head at 6.50am, but plenty of time to get sorted and off at 8.00am.
Got to the A5……….sod it no scales.
Back home into the house, key for garage and scales sorted lets get going it’s 8.10am.
At Hednesford realised I’d left my freshly microwaved couple of slices in the kitchen.
Sod it…….I’ll cadge a slice off someone.
Got to the station gates cock on 8.30am…….a quick check, looked like most parked up.
Next palaver……..everyone’s got sign in. Another 10-15minutes gone by.
At the KP car park, Heinzer and MrV go and peg out. Catch up with them, its 12 pegs on the Inlet and 6 on the Outlet.
Ok with 16 fishing its 2 sections of 5 on the Inlet, one of 6 on the outlet.
Draw time, pegs on the outlet go fast, cock pegs (low) on the inlet start disappearing in front of my eyes……….what’s left in the bag at the end…………….peg 9 for the BDM.
For the uninitiated the inlet is naturally split into 2 sections – the middle piece (decent pegs) is only fishable when the golf course is shut.
Now I know it shallows up down nearer the Trent, but start plumbing up and I’ve 2.5 ft at my feet shallowing up all across down to 6 inches across against the reeds. That’s it then. 3 rigs set up.
Worse still – it’s down getting on a foot from last week and it aint drawing. Bl**dy hell – target for the day – avoid a dry. How am I gunna manage that??????????????
Even worse still, The Wedge has found a 3.5 foot ‘hole’ in his peg to my right and Phil B seem to have the same sort of depth.
First put in. Did I see a touch on that float tip. Yep I’m not hallucinating a second merest touch and a strike and a roach is gleefully accepted to avoid the dreaded drynet.......
Wedgey starts picking up a few small perch on his favoured chop out of that ‘deep hole’ he’s located.
Things are looking up as Phil B starts picking up roach too. Apparently they are all into fish into A section ‘bagging up’
20 mins on and the float starts moving right to left…………the stations starts drawing……only problem……………it’s ripping through on the inside. Modification to tackle to compensate for the flow. Will it be drawing for an hour or longer?
Wedges pinkies go sailing past me feeding Phil B’s peg. Phil B starts picking up roach, whilst BDM and the others to his right are struggling.
2 hours in……………gotto pinch Phil’s fish off him somehow. Right – mix a bit a sb gb up. Can’t get to the waters edge so it’s time for walkies to get some water and a few pikies from those on the outlet.
Heinzer and Drynet are having a few bits and pieces. Veste’s had a pike first put in. Zorro, Cotti and Gerry all catch fish whilst I get a bowl full of water.
Back to the peg. News is that Phils had another couple of perch whilst the others in B section aint had a bite. GB mixed up, in with an egg. 2 mins later, a roach. Then another, Then nowt. Is that the game, a ball for every two fish?
Another shout and Veste’s got another pike. Picture secured and back to peg
The next 2 hours fly by. BDM keeps picking up a few 1oz roach, only to see Phil H put a 4ozer in his net periodically.
Match over, time for the scales. Drynets owning up to about 6lb, Gerry first to weigh aint sure – 5lb but he’s lost quite a few fish off the hook. 6.0.10 sets the bench mark. Drynet pushes hard with a decent billie and silvers, but being the honest guy with his estimation (that’s a first for Cashmores and the TK gruellers !!!!) just finishes an ounce or two short with 5-14-0.
Not a lot left to report………..Veste finished with 3 pike and Zorro had another. Veste also hit another that he couldn’t get out on his 5lb straight thru and bunch of worms.
So Gerry took C section, BDM somehow got his nose in front of Phil B to take B section and the ultimate match (and A section) winner with 8.12.12 was the Worminator off end peg 2.
