i'm off up the Trent today give it the once over for the national teams picked and with a extra two anglers this year wanting to fish its game on i think the biggest down fall is the lack of time as the match length takes in so many different sections for me the tidal Trent will be the hardest as the last time i fished it i had a right nightmare as it was probably the highest tide of the year and silly me thought about standing in the water and fishing a waggler  Image Imagewrong move in fact its still has one of my waders  Image Image
i'm not bothered about drawing the tidal but i would prefer the natural

off up the dyke today i might get some photo's

he's a picture of the dyke yesterday this view is looking down towards hudson's bay it was very clear and bright yesterday but again Colin Walton had 30 odd anglers fishing

this picture is the area of the dyke thats fishing the best 55 around to the 40s the match was won by TONY MARSHELL QUORN off 42 12lb of hemp roach and a bream on feeder the lad is taking it a part this year i don't think he's been out of the top three all season i spoke to tony after and he will tell you anything and is very modest he said at the moment its his sort of river and hemp and tares being the best bait as its low and clear
abit futher down are the famous barbel pegs

Image
the lad on it [sorry i've forgot his name a long eaton lad] had achub taken by a pike and bite that when he picked his rod up and reeled in had smashed him Image Image

Image
and it was good old fashion waggler fishing for most Image Image

the dyke hasn't changed but the fishing has a lovely stretch of river Image Image

cracking photos joff.Brings back memories as a lad as i
grew up on the dyke .It hasnt changed much over the years
although the different species of fish have. Those pegs held a few chub not so long ago.Newark have done a cracking job on the access as you used to have to walk about 4 fields to get to them pegs .Doesnt surprise me that Tony Marshall is doing well on there ,right up his street, especially when the hemp goes on there Image
What is unsual is the amount of bream/skimmers coming out
considering the conditions at the moment.I was just telling my old man about it the other day when he used to fish it you never saw a skimmer and the dyke was full of gonks below ,Oh happy days :).Good to see my old captain Colin Walton still gets out ,he must be about 90.bless him

yes he drew a shithole mate 34 or 35 next to graham barry tip-pickle organizers peg mark
tony has got it right up there its not just the hemp he's had 40lb of bream as well but tony is the first to addmit the draw bag has been kind to him although his hemp fishing is second to none at the moment and he'l win off lots of pegs on the dyke while others try and chase him

the summer league needs a rethink next year because of frisby pits being sold
packington looks the favoured venue its a shame barston is so dear but i was thinking of the teams that are now wanting to fish it before it was all about the local teams but it seams they are not interested
2 trent
2 canal
2 packington
2 soar
is looking good Imageand we might have 12 to 15 teams Image
