Late barbel wins it for Rip Off!
Gale force winds and a gin clear river made it a struggle for most but a 7lb barbel, landed in the last 10 minutes of the match, helped Nottingham’s Steve (Rip Off) Toone to victory in the latest Abu Garcia Wychavon Championship qualifier.
Drawn at Peg 31, Mill Tackle grouped Steve elected to tackle the nine feet deep swim with strong pole gear and chopped worm and caster with worm on the hook. The big fish, added a few small perch and eels caught earlier in the match boosted his catch to a winning 8-14-0. Another big fish, this time a 4lb tench caught on pole and worm close in at Peg 4, helped runner up Mark Bowerman (Sensas A4) to a 7-5-0 total.
Performance of the match went to Tony Marshall who followed up his previous day’s win with 6-9-0 of hemp caught roach at 16 metres from Peg 63, just above the ferry. Fourth was Pole Fishing magazine’s Tom Scholey with 4-12-0 of eels and perch from Peg 43. And fifth was Nick Cowling (Fisheasy) with 4-11-0 from Peg 10.
Qualifiers: Tony Marshall, Nick Cowling, Steve Toone
Next qualifier: – Sunday July 17th – bookings through Diana Raphael on 01386 442458

Shakespeare Championship Qualifier - 05/07/2010
Saturday July 3rd
Warwickshire Avon - Evesham Town Waters and Hampton Ferry
60 pegs
Chub winner for Ian.
Despite the baking hot temperature, a very clear river and a significant amount of boat traffic there were some good returns at the latest Shakespeare Championship qualifier. Leading the way at Peg 35, just below the Isbourne confluence, was Ian Sutherland of the Land Rover club with 14-8-0 of small chub, mostly taken on a small maggot feeder fished well across the river.
Roach featured in the second and third placed catches with Tony Marshall of Quorn VDE taking the runner up prize with a catch of 9-2-8 taken on hemp from Peg 14. Third was Darren Davies (Drennan) with 8-9-0 of hemp roach from Peg 22.
Fourth place went to Richie Reynolds (Quorn VDE) with 8-0-0 of chub and perch from Peg 5. Dave Harpin (Daiwa Dorking) came in fifth with 7-7-0 of chub and eels from Peg 56 and completing the frame was Dave Harrell (Match Fishing) with 7-4-0 from Peg 31.
Qualifiers: Tony Marshall, Ian Sutherland, Dave Harpin

Nice one Joff !!!! , Great to see Steve back to form !!! even if he was behind me after 2 hours !!!!!!!
But on a serious note the bloke is a top man and after all his troubles this will be a great pick me up
Tony is now making the hemp work so it looks as though I am going to have to pick his brains !!!!! I think it's fair to say he is the top bloke on this method on that river at present and that's a big statement to make.
Still won't be long before all that glag goes in
