Curse match 3 2010......…on the ropes, punch drunk

Probably because I had a ‘pop’ :P on these forums at well let’s just say my ‘fortunate’ travelling companion who had scraped through the knock out last match, Heinzer retaliated by getting me up earlier from my golden slumbers Image for this one under the premise of calling at the truckstop for some grub.

My early rise obviously didn’t go un noticed as Hotlips and FK were tucking into the obligatory ‘full english’ as I walked in with FK quipping ‘What’s the matter with you, wet the bed? :D

Sarnie picked up for later consumption, we arrived early for the draw, where there was some debate between the ‘pegger outers’ as to the boundaries of the section we were booked on. Image

In MGB mode, match fees were soon collected and as the ‘pegger outers’ returned we were ready for the draw.

Despite my claims that because of a Dickie knee I should ‘qualify’ for an early number draw, my pleading fell on deaf ears - or was it jears. Apparently my supportive ::) club members wouldn’t allow me membership of the short walk clan of Brambles, Harry the Hitman and FK - and I dreaded the draw which would probably entail me on a mega hike again. :'(

‘Let Chockie Munster’ draw for you, he’ll pull you a short walk flyer’ suggest Simps. Image

So I did……….

And what did the Chockie Munster pull me…………

Peg 17 Image

Now when you fish a cut match with the Cashmores clan, there’s 3, possibly 4 members if I include Cotti the Warburton King, that you don’t want to be drawn next to if you are gunna fancy your chances as they are the best cut anglers in the club……..namely Big Baz, MrV and Sprucey.

Realizing my plight with the old footy war wound in that knee causing me some grief, I thought it was very ‘sporting’ Image of Sprucey who was quite insistent that he carry my gear for me to peg 17 in the distance - I say ‘distance’ - it was well out of sight under motorway bridge, plus past a gap for o/h cables. Image

I declined Sprucey’s offer and trudged off, little realizing at that moment that he was probably wishing to accompany me so that he could see my facial reaction when I learnt which members were going to be keeping me company either side for the day. Image

Talk about wanting to escort me to the proverbial hangman’s noose. :o

Who did I find in situ on my arrival at peg 17?

Big Baz to my left Image

Image

And MrV to my right :o

Image

Rigs all set up, and gb mixed up off I trotted to check out all the feature pegs that the surrounding competition appeared to have, including Cheslynboy sitting on a nice bush that he felt pretty sure had coughed up a 10lb plus roach weigh on a recent club match.
Image

Anyway onto the highlights of my match…….. Image

Along with Mrv, I started on the inside having fed a few lines across at 10, 12 and 2oclock, up and down shelves in places, whilst everyone else appeared to go straight over.

After a few minutes, the dry net was avoided with a roach taken whilst the cut was pulling hard. Image

After about 10 mins it was one fish apiece for me and MrV off the inside, whilst Big Baz was still dry across. Image

I gave it another 10 mins, winkling out another couple of bits. MrV then played his master card and went over and started catching 1-2oz roach regularly. Image

I went over two of my long gb and squat lines and started emulating Big Baz……….with nowt - not a sniff off a pongo or small silver. Image

One probable big difference as to why MrV started catching over whilst both myself and Big Baz was struggling……………..there on the other side of the bridge was Cotti and MrV had clocked him catching fish from the off……….and 3 guesses, but 2 don’t count Image as to what Cotti would be having them on., Image

Yep MrV was battering us on the punch. After a hour or so, with me just edging Big Baz by 8 fish to 6 (by returning inside) with nowt still to show for spells across, it was then when I coined the headline for this report - ‘Punch drunk’ as MrV continued to catch………. :'(

Then Big Baz struck :o ………………with 2 caster fish in a 15 minute spell - each netters probably 10 to 12 oz a piece whilst I couldn’t buy a bite on squatt or pinkie. Image

Big Baz was rubbing it in as we’d had the obligatory £1 side bet before the off……. and man can he rub it in. :D

With 2 hours 15 mins gone and only a further gratefully netted 4 oz perch snuck from lower down the far shelf, it was time for TK to play his master card and try to get out of jail. Image Image Image

That 2 oclock far line had been trickled with casters for the last couple of hours………time for a look on it following Big Baz’s last caster fish. 8-)

On with a caster, still on the 1lb.4oz rig complete with a size 22 PR31 fine wire hook and first put in and the float sails straight away…………. Image

Fish on…………and it aint a bad un as the no4 lacky comes out. Image

After its initial surprise at being hooked I’ve now got it into the track. I can tell it’s a slimey by its fight………… Sh*te Image Image Image - the lock gates open and its like the Severn, adding power to its ‘fight’ as it skirts in the flow.

The lacky is stretching as I bring it closer to the nearside, albeit it is now several yards ‘down stream’ from me added by the flow. Got another problem………..small landing net head. Image

Aided by the ‘encouraging’ :P shouts and comments by my fellow club members on adjacent pegs to successfully net it………….well I think that’s what they said (not)……….I just managed with a stretch as it flapped on the top to scoop it half way into the net. Image

Right I’m back in contention as Big Baz cusses and chunters for the next hour Image as he goes seeking one of the chub that he usually manages to conjure up.

A look to my left - and is he in?????????????

Image

Nah - he's snagged up good and proper - go on, give that lackie a whack with the landing net Image

Image

Mind he did manage to get his own back, call it poetic justice, and have a laff at yours truly when I lost one of my TBF floats across, snagged as I was swinging round to answer the phone. :-[

Time creaps on and MrV’s punchline has died, Image I’ve only had one further 4-6oz roach on the caster :'( and we are all struggling while MrV reports that Cotti is still catching strongly. Image

‘The Chockie Munster must be having a few too’ I comment, ‘Being as he aint walking’ :D

Low and behold, 5 mins later, up strolls the Chockie Munster and gives me a wave………well I think it was a wave :D

Guddo, looks like we are quits on the Mars Bar front Image

Image

With nowt further showing on the caster line, and despite rotating all lines, all I manage to snare is a further skimmer out of the track……………that’s 3 fish in the last 3 hours. :'(

With half hour to go……….a quick stretch of the legs.

Cheslynboy is cussing at the no of boats Image we’ve seen and blames the match booking secretary for sticking a match (on his cut) during the Easter hols……….. Image

And what’s this, despite owning up to having a couple of lb, Simps has spent half the match tying up rigs for the morning
You've got a couple of lb and you are tying rigs up for tomorrow!!!! Image

Image

A return to the box and hurrah the golden peg is safe as Hotlips calls it a day Image

Image

Anyway enuff of the waffle and onto the tale of the scales and who did what from where………

Curse match 3 2010......…on the ropes, punch drunk

by Sprucey
following on from the last time simple asked for a lift,i arranged to pick him up at 7-45.si said i'll be up at 7-30

ready and waiting,i thought at the time it was just si being optimistic, but no!!

there we where like two shiny new buttons, which was pretty useful,

because it was our job for the day to peg out.

before pegging we needed someone to arrive,to look after our kit which was left in the car incase we needed to drive upto the next bridge after drawing.

first on the scene was harry the hitman, who after telling us of a little incident while testing his elastic's for the day,

managed to up root a telegraph pole with it and disrupting all phone supply to his side of wolverhampton in the process??

so off myself and si trundle to peg out.

i said to si does section 4 go to the left of the access or to the right back to penkridge,no idea says si and neither  do i

oh well lets peg to the right says i and off we go.

after pegging all 25 pegs and starting our walk back, leroy woodyard appears.why you pegged this way for says the dark one
this is section 4 says i,no says leroy it's the other way!!!!!

si volunteer's to fetch the pegs, while me and regggae boy go back to find the trumpet player who is a bailiff on this water.

upon asking tk where trumpet man is and being told he ain't coming, leroy and i re-peg on and up to the access.

si return's with the pegs and ask's why we didn't ask the trumpet player,he's not coming i tell him, that's what tk just told us says i.

si says well who's that then,we all turn and look just like mr ben the t player is there, who tell's us section 4 is to the left.

we all look at tk who's in a sanatogen induced trance.

after leroy telling us all the pegs and weights from last years div 1 practice,we finally get back to the draw!

now at the last match tk let the pegger-outer's have first dips in the bag,but this time he had learnt his lesson and got leroy to draw his peg, after all the short walks had been taken.

with the air thick of anticipation and vic's vapour rub,i jumped in after si. number 5 stuck to my mitt

then si reveal's his on end peg 25,why is it the pegger-outers all get end pegs except me  :'( :'(

with cotti and mr v drawing either side of pretty bridge and yamo on the big bend before it, not forgetting si on the end peg.

this was going to be a hard match to frame in.

my next door neighbour for the day was m.g.b our very own boater. this should be right up his street with how many boats we were likely to see.

an added bonus was i got the scales again!! great  david bailey never got asked to weighin and take photo's,did he.

so on to my match,a short whip for the inside was assembled, one rig for the track(caster),two for the squatt across and a dibber for caster across.

now i know my peg looks very good, but after 8mtrs there are snags ,i don't know if they were branches after waterway clearances or what but it reduced the peg somewhat

i was forced to fish caster at 14mtr's to find a clear area.

on the whistle a couple of balls of groundbait for the inside and one hard one over, caster's spread all over, one day i'll get used to my catapult's

while fishing the whip,i swung a gudgeon in and dropped my pult, which went into my net.

so obviously because something had gone in my net,i promptly loose fed the gudgeon. now don't tell me we all haven't done this ,i won't believe you!!!!!

about 2hrs in si ring's what you had says i a couple of skimmers si tell's me,any size about a pound and a half he answer's what each?

no he says one's about a pound and the other's about 8 oz.

everybody who know's si will tell you when it's estimating bream size he's not the best Image

so i'm thinking anywhere between a pound and three then !!

various folk start walking and word soon arrive's tk's has this weeks inflatable bream at about 4lbs and cotti and mr v also catching.

with about one and a half hrs to go leroy comes walking, for the last half hr the fishing as beenat a lull. as soon as he starts talking the fish re-appear,including my biggest fish of the day ,a roach of about 12oz.

after he as got bored watching off he trundles to pack up

so trumpet man send's his oppo goughy up to see what's happening, with 25 min's to go,i concentrate on the caster, with goughy watching.

i manage to hook and play another 12oz roach and then lose it at the net!!! Image

after this i only muster one more bite resulting in a 6oz roach.

tk should have posted the result's,so it's on to the piccies especally for joff there's loads ????????????

Superb reports and pictures. Image Image

I only made my rigs up because some spotty kid sailed his barge right through my far bank swim and killed it dead Image ::)

I liked how Trumpet man had maid service bring his trolley down to his peg then said maid borrowed my landing net to get one of trumpet mans floats out the cut Image Image

Great match. Loved it thank you Image Image

The ‘team results’ should make interesting reading - well from a team E perspective at least - after KOD knocks up the results sheet.

Lying in 2nd place largely to the team captain’s endeavours after the first two matches, team E struck back with a 2nd, 3rd and 4th on the day. Image

Whilst the team captain obviously decided he didn’t want to dominate team affairs during the series and decided to have a ‘rest on Saturday ;), Harry the Hitman stepped upto the mark with a useful points contribution. Image

In fact I must make special mention of Harry the Hitman. I feared he might chuck in his cap for these last two cut matches after his earlier practice session that produced a solitary gudgeon

However with a few words of encouragement, a few pointers in the right direction, Harry has produced two sterling performances. Image

In match 1 he battered the surrounding anglers with a classy performance. Image

On Saturday before the match I ‘upped’ the benchmark for him and set him a team target weight of 1lb 8oz. I was slightly disappointed when I spoke to him after the weigh in and he told me he’d done 1lb 6oz - albeit an improvement on his last cut match weight. Image

Obviously lbs and oz are not the forte of Harry the Hitman, cuss the man had not only come good and beat his target weight after all sticking 1lb 9oz 3drams on the scales Image - again he battered all around him with the exception of only Sprucey on the opening pegs 1-10 beating him. Image

Well done that man Image Image

Brilliant lads a true report

What else would you expect Cheslynboy - we tell it as it is ;)

Well I say 'we' loosely - cuss now with the Chief Scribe 'retired' from the ranks it looks like there's only me and Sprucey from the Cashmores membership left to populate this part of the forum with match reports :-/

Seem to me it's a good job that you guys/guests come and post in here or it certainly would be lonely - so cheers for that Image

Hope you all enjoyed your matches on WAA waters

Well I certainly did - even think MGB enjoyed himself weighing in with the bankside banter :D - I'll be in touch to discuss 2011 dates/venues shortly - cheers Cheslynboy Image

Great reports and piccies lads Image Well done Mr Warburton, I hear you are being scouted for their Winter bread advertising campaign Image
Well, what can I say of my match?? Started well with a few punch roach before being wiped out by the boats. After 2 hours it was a case of trying to winkle out odd fish here and there, mainly small caster fish. I think I only had 2 fish all day on pinkie/maggot/squatt. >:(
And then to get mugged by BDMs only drop in on his caster line Image It did make for some entertainment though, as Big Baz took a break from winding up the boaters to slagging BDM off Image Enjoyed the matc and the craic as usual. Off to bed now as I am off to Algarve in about 7 hours Image

fair play to cottie he certainly knows the crack with the punch

Think I've showed him too much about it over the last couple of years ;) :D

He now reminds me of a guy we christened as 'Seedy' Neil - took him on the cut for a few outings on the seed, he saw it's potential and that's all he ever used on the cuts thereafter - come rain, shine, sleet or snow :D

Looks like you’ve gone and done it and must have upset a few Sprucey Image

No input whatsoever from forum members Brambles, Big Baz, KOD, Millie, MGB, Yamo, Heinzer, JR, HaHa, Phil B, The Worminator or Veste, Image

The more I think about it, whilst I know it coincided with Simps ‘leaving’ Yale, I think his decision to close that section of the boards was influenced by the lack of Yale member participation in the forums.

Although I know thee, me and MrV - with Harry the Hitman chipping in occasionally - support this portion of the forum, perhaps it’s time to consider whether the Cashmores Boards serve any purpose and we call it a day and ask Simps to shut it down and delete it :-/
