whats happening another team short, one team pulling out, monks lake team members short!!
winter leagues on commercials and winter leagues on natural venues aren't going together what i mean by that its the semi's don't seam to be working
i t might want a rethink next year
spro team on monks fished a man short know nothing about commercials traveled 300miles with a man short basically NO CHANCE of qualifing yet are very good on natural venues
K&A team pulls out was it a commercial team i wonder
and now poor billy are going to fish two men short on the stainy with NO CHANCE of qualifing and it sounds like his team are commercial anglers what arethey going to do with B/J
i just think its becoming very split the winter league
just a thought it might want looking at
last years troubles happened to be over commercial teams as well

Heard on the grapevine a team from the shrewsbury area are only taking 8 anglers to fish the stainy semi ::)
Them spare pegs could turn into a massive advantage for a team or two !

i can't see the the top teams making many mistakes but for the two or three teams that are almost in with a chance its a big blow as they are going to have to peg above the turning bridge in the country and ask lloydy will tell you thats proper pants and this is where it could be won and lost for the almost teams if trentmen, barnsley and saints slip up here the almost teams could upset things but now they are fishing against 11 teams abig differents

QUOTE [kw]
It may well need looking at, but not on here, write to us with your views and idea's, but remember to think about ALL the teams not just your own.
I have to say that you have got some stuff wrong Joff. Give me a call some time and I will tell you the real facts not what you have heard or seen on a web site forum.
We changed it last year and got alot of stick, I might add particually from your semi on the canal!!
Every team wants a venue close to home, that they fish regually be it a comi or canal.
If anyone has idea's put it down on paper and send it to me.
Cheers

its was an observation really i done need to tell you how to run anything as i know first hand what its like to run competitions yours is and will always be a thankless job perhaps not the place on a website i agree but it was a observation nothing else and wondered or wanted other views on it hopefully from the anglers taking part its not about my team and your right its about every team BUT no one wants the responsibility of asking the questions
listen i'm always been right behind yu on most issue's and we have always worked them out
this really is only a observation
bye the way you can have good debaits on websites as long its kept between the lines some good ideas come from the website, more and more anglers are using websites for imformation as well

He (KW) a bit touchy as usual joff ::) if he is going to use w/sites he should make himself more approachable not spit the dummy out time and time again.
Cant be doing with it myself, some people think they are untouchable
its the anglers and their pockets that suffer as usual not KW or A/T.
Stainy will be a cracker , best venue in the country .... spose thats a good thing

Joff, when I first fished with Ossett there were 3 strong AT winter leagues in Yorkshire. The one we fished had Ossett, Brighouse and Goole plus 7 other teams. The top 3 would dominate but it was a very competitive league. There was then the Eastern winter league headed by Goldthorpe and Middy / Daiwa Dons plus the Three Counties with Maver Barnsley, 2 or 3 strong Sheffield teams, the same from Barnsley and so on. Added to that was the Linconshire league on the Ancholme, with Browning Scunny and many other teams.
When I moved to the north west 6 or 7 years ago that had wittled down to just 1 league. Where have all those class anglers gone? Well some of the hard core still fish the remaining winter league, others fish commercials.
The north west is no better, the Lancashire winter league folded a few years back and everyone is scattered across 2 or 3 comedy leagues. If it were up to me all semi final venues would be natural venues, but there's too many commercial winter leagues these days and that's where angling is going so things will only get worse......

Just an observation from someone outside the fold.
Could the time be possibly right,to fish all traditional team fishing,
or whats left of it,fished to the cips rules?
Theres now a feeder world champs & its only a matter of
time-with the upsurge in "carpdromes" all over europe that
there will be a commercial carp world champs.
If there was more cips matches on suitable venues, would
that not feed the already super successful team England
for the future, but also give more of you a chance to be good enough to try & make the team?

End of the day Rog, how many teams (and anglers for that matter) fish AT winter leagues because they are venue experts? It used to be that people entered those leagues to qualify for a semi and mix with better anglers from the rest of the country..............now people drop on a league because it uses their favourite commercial and it means 6 or so big matches for them.
Don't get me wrong, there's some class anglers on commercial winter leagues but there's also some folk who only want to fish those venues and so aren't bothered about quality natural venues like the stainy.
I guess the same used to happen a few years back but just not from commercials. The Ancholme winter league was 6 rounds on the same venue, quite often the top teams there were only bothered about fishing on their doorstep and so would qualify but just turn up on the day. Teams qualifying from the old Yorkshire rivers circuit used to do the same....
As for the north west, its a farce. Wigan is OK as long as you don't mind never busting 3lb and getting battered by virtually anyone off the next peg. The way the Lancy teams of 4 went that'll never take off again so feck knows what we'll be doing this winter!

last years final a team nearly didn't fish the final yes a commercial team it was only when kw put a strong foot down that they turned up no practice and i would of thought no B/J
all i'm saying is from my observations is why do commercial leagues enter a competition when they know one! the semi's could be on natural venues and two the final is on a natural venue
on the other hand the teams that fish there leagues on natural venues don't seam to mind which ever they draw commercial or natural and will put the time and effort into practicing
TBF league p#ssed me right off last year

It's a way of commies getting big turn outs Joff(most are 20 peg knock ups now) The same Tunnel team are at heronbrook this year and if it were a fishing match would be a cert to qualify but would they turn up for final
. I think the mindset of most commercial anglers are individual, where as natural venue teams are usually in a team because they want to fish team matches and want to qualify for a final wherever the matches may be(except heronbrook) lol

i can't see the point in ringing ken ,BUT i think it should be looked at because what ever we say these semi finals take a lot of running and like you said commie anglers ARE individuals and only think of them selfs the trouble is its rubbing off a cross the competition it seams they can do what they want

For what it is worth.....
The days of these type of Winter League started to decline with the birth of commercial fishing.
Before that the the country had traditional fishing and there were lots of matchmen that you could class as true all rounders. ie they fished lakes, rivers, cuts drains etc.
With commecial fishing adding a whole new branch to the sport the days of the all rounder have virtually gone or at best greatly reduced from what they were.
In its infancy the old all rounders could easily compete with the new commercial boys but I'm afraid it has got that specialised that commie anglers need to solely do that type of fishing to stay in the upper echelons.
Unfortunately (and unknowingly) commies have split match fishing into two. If there is an answer I don't know what it is except for suggesting to go down seperate avenues.
I can't ever see a mix of commercial/natural water ever working in a League again for reasons I have mentioned, this really is the root of the problem.
