has anyone used them if so are they any good? and where can i get them? just after a method that will be a bit quicker when i got lots of fish in my swim

My initial thoughts were in agreement with your comment, but after looking a rule 11 in the NFA model rules I ainst so sure......

It reads

11. Any bait, subject to local rules, can be used except live or dead fish, frogs spinning baits or artificial lures. 

No mention of artificial 'baits' - only 'artificial lures'

What's the definition of a lure in the context of this rule

If it is plastic it is not a bait, a bait is edible

It all depends on what Rules, if any, you are fishing to.

My interpretation of it is that plastic bloodworm would be barred.

At the end of the day, by definition, a lure is a bait so artificial lures are barred.

If you want a full clarification on this I can eaasily find out but from memory this point has been brought up before.

Artificial - the definition in the Encarta dictionary is 'Made by human beings rather than occurring naturally' and 'made in imitation of something natural'

Re 'rather than occurring naturally' - what about luncheon meat or even bread............neither occur naturally and both are made by human beings.

Within the strict definitions above, if 'artificial lures' as quoted in the NFA rule 11 doesnt specifically (only) mean those thingies  you tie on your line and usually use to catch predators, shouldnt bread and 'processed meats' be banned too 

tk i agree with you totaly, you could even take it to include pellets or even cooked hemp as by cookin it you are forcing it to split. The list is endless and would back to the basics of the only allowd baits would be such as worm (all types inc blood and lob ect), mmaggy, squat, pinkie, caster ect ect.

There may be a local Rule that bans the use of any particular bait, whatever it may be. Earlier this year the Division One National in these parts was run with a ban on pellets and boilies.

There used to be a rubber based solution that actually looked like a bloodworm when squeezed from a tube, I think it was called Mystic. It was very realistic but was banned as an 'artificial bait'.

It is one of those difficult things to put into words but as far as I know all plastic, rubber, synthetic baits that are made to look like 'edible' baits are barred.

There are lots of fisheries that do ban these anyway; someone might correct me but they can not be used at Shatterford.

At the end of the day if you fish matches not to Angling Trust Rules you can allow basically what you want but it does mean drawing up a whole set of Rules for the matches involved and that is not quite as easy as it sounds.

I was just being pedantic Bill and looking to stimulate a bit of debate on this one.......although it might be interesting if anyone ever raised the point formally - possibly in their defence - if they'd erred and been challenged for using a 'banned' substance in a match environment.......

i think if i was to fish a national and knew they work i would use them.......... i can honestly say iv never cheated

that rule to me states that you can use it as artificial blood worm doesnt fall into the catogry of any of the above in my opinion

The point has been raised before re Mystic.
It was banned because it was an artificial bait (lure).

If my memory is right it was a 'type' of rubber solution.
Whichever way anyone looks at it plastic is synthetically produced.

My dictionary definition of synthetic is 'artificial' - check yours out, I am sure it will say the same.
