with my river season coming to a end after the winter league and the B/J starting I've already started stripping down on my river rigs already cleaning the floats and checking the bodies and if so a quick coat of vanish, throw the rest away and start again in a few months ready for next season the trays are now replaced with my B/J rigs that are all new for this seasons fishing. a few years ago i wouldn't of done this but i'm amazed how many knocks and stress marks you get on a rig after one season often where you have moved shot or you have broken the line and its easier to tie a knot with 10minutes of the match left .it just happens that its always your first rig you get out of your box wishing you'd taken time to replace the rig
i now have two rive trays with my river floats on from 0.4 floats to 3gram all have a identical rig in the second tray and maybe my favourite rigs i have 3 or4 the same but i leave them back at home as replacements is this taking preparation too far as I've had such a crap season i wonder is it really worth doing Image

Always worth doing Joff. I normaly get stuck into mine after Christmas.

DTF will be along shortly though to tell you off though for having different coloured winders in the tray, the float tips not lined up, not to mention non matching floats. Image Image Image Image

I always use new hooks, they're the most important item and the only thing that connects you to the fish. ;)

Must admit I use the same hooks at times; it must be a Stoke City thingy Image

Funnily enough I never use the same line twice; I never ever use hooklengths for my fishing. Image

No Joff; I have a tray full of 2x10 MP6s all Silstar/WBC 0.065 straight through to MP1s 22s for punch. Some use styls, some use shot. I use 5x13 shot and adjust the shot on the rig on the bank to how I feel fit depending if I am using punch (usually am at this time of year) or squatt, pinkie maggot or seed. Just occasional this can be the better caster rig too.

Also have caster rigs set up on the next line up (1.7, not sure of diameter) to MP6s 3 and 4 X 10 with Tubertini Series 4 Opaco hooks, 20s or 18s

If punch fish are big (sometimes they are, I switch to the slightly heavier and quicker rig).

Most of our winter matches are roach and skimmers. Image Image

In all cases I only use Fox No 2 laccy, although it is slightly stronger than most.

I have tries all sorts of line for donkeys of years and vitually all our 'bread' guy use WBC or Silstar 0.065. It may be slightly stronger than it states but importantly you can move those 13 shot without it wrinkling and weakening you line.

You can probable see now that there is no use for a hook length with these rigs. Image Image

Supposedly 0.08 on the spool Bill Image

Ditto me Bill - used to knock up 0.08 to 0.06 hook lengths, but for the last couple of years I havent bothered and now go straight thru with both diameters

I hope you remember to do them properly as I have shown you. Just because you are almost a Doyle there is no need to copy Malc with your rigs. Image Image Image
