this doe's not include any tackle companies i can name 12 big companies [bill you will have take a back seat on this one]these sponsors put shed loads of money into the sport unlike fish-o-mania where a good proportion comes from the angler that take part

I still have my Shakespeare blue plastic box from the 80s with the stickers on that I got from the nationals with the name Calor on them so I presume that Calor Gas were the sponsors. I think that Tuborg also did some sponsorship too.

I remember as a kid fishing for Burton Mutual in the Captain Morgan cup. We made the semi-finals twice ! I remember one being on the River Kennet, the last four teams in the country fished two semi's and we drew ABC led by Dickie Carr. Unfortunately it was on agg. weight. We fished for bits and they fished for barbel. Two of their lads caught one each and beat us, if I remember it was a right grueller, anyway got interviewed by Mac Cambell from AT so as a 14 year old kid it made my day !
The teams were 12 a side and if we drew a river team we would take them on the canal at Burton and likewise if we drew a canal team we would take them on the river Dove at Tutbury what a venue that was ! every two weeks would see a open match at Tutbury with 52 pegs. Always a sell out and you had to wait for someone to die before getting a ticket ! The reason being big weights of Chub, Dace, Bream and Barbel in many pegs. Image
The in the late eighties the river level was dropped by the water authority to feed Formark Reservoir. This in turn reduced the pegging, made it peggy and people left the venue :'( Nobody runs any matches on it now and the speci boys have it all to themselves ! The best barbel to come out is 17.5 lbs !!!
Ah well
