well, apparentley the pollution a few weeks ago has done its damage, talking to a couple off mates today who have fished the rugeley stretch for the last 30 odd years.
they spent ALL day yesterday fishing different methods/swims for exactly nowt....zilch....not even a single bite, and these lads are real old school, they could catch a fish out of a puddle of cows yellow stream.
upper trent..RIP.. for the next few years

Disappointing to hear that OBI, particularly after this report a week or so ago
http://www.talkangling.co.uk/upload/oth ... nt-11.html
I was hoping the upper section around Rugeley and downstream had somehow 'escaped' the ravages of the pollution :(

Can't see the point of stocking it until they update the treatment/sewerage plants.....
It will happen again........

restocking of dace, chub barbel etc,was done in rugeley area done fairley recently, not sure if it was 08 or 09 all these have gone now.
big stretch of river between stoke and burton so if only these 2 areas to be restocked it will take a long time for them to make their way upstream/downstream,
also agree with bill how long until the next incident,
happens far to often and i bet if it happened on a southern chalk stream or a scottish salmon river they would be falling over themselves to put it right :(

I can only speak for the Burton end but we need alot more crappity smackin fish than what's been put in !
It now appears that we will never know what happened in June (Not the cyanide spill, but what went into the water when we had our first high river level). An act of God is just not good enough. Maybe a few fish will be caught next season, but the bigger fish such as carp, chub, bream and Barbel will take years to come back to the stock size we originally had.
Hopefully Coors will run some matches and we will see, but I would like to see further stocking to compensate for the heavy losses we have had.
I have experienced fish kills before on the Trent but this was definately the worst and I still smell a rat. Somewhere, somebody know's what happened but I doubt it will ever be made public.

Noted in the Express & Star last week………
New Fish in rivers restock
The Environment Agency has re-stocked West Midlands rivers with 95.500 fish in the last month.
It includes 24,000 fish from the agency’s Calverton Fish Farm near Nottingham put in the River Trent in the wake of a cyanide leak at Soke on Trent.
The new fish were put in the water at Stone, Weston, Shugborough and Wolseley Bridge before Christmas.
All the fish were at least 18 months old and had been specially reared for re-stocking.
In the River Trent at Catton, Branston, Stapenhill, Burton and Winshill, all in the Burton on Trent area, the total of of fish stocked reached 36,500.
The River Tame received a total of 24,500 fish, all released into the river at one of three sites at Kingsbury, Tamworth and Elford
