Still scratching my head

Fished a club match on our canal on Saturday - apart from the strong south westerly which made fishing difficult for some of the members - there were plenty of fish caught.

The following morning, fished another match on the same canal network, albeit a mile or so away. There was plenty of evidence of fish movement - fish topping etc - but it fished rock hard. Whereas on the Saturday at times it was literally a bite a chuck, on Sunday I was scratting for bites - it really was that difficult

Noticed you said the Extension fished v hard Sunday.

I fished the GU in Olton this afternoon (larry Teapots section... he dont know lol). After an hour I'd had one bite which resulted in a small perch. That’s just not right there.

Moved on to the Black Boy at Knowle.... 30 mins plus, maybe more and not a touch... packed up.

Small fish were topping all along at Olton, thought id be on a banker with punch... not a thing.

Wonder if we'll ever work out what makes them turn off sometimes ?????

What changed overnight? Anybody got any ideas - apart from the drop in the wind, I didn’t notice any radical change in conditions

a great big full moon TK thats what was wrong mate some of the specimen boys say the fish can swim all night because of predators chasing them with the extra light throughout the night and often don't feed the next day anyway its normally best 3 to 4 days before a full moon and the same after and i must saw they are never too far out

our winter league sunday the roach weights were brilliant yet very tightly shoaled and like chopped worm said the predators were still active
canals it must hit it a lot more yet lee's match fished well

I fished the Staffs-Worcs at Dimmingsdale, (Wolverhampton) on Sunday, Bilston AC Open, 27 fished.
Not a bloodworm or joker in sight; my bait bill was well under £2 for the day.
It fished very well, loads of bites, winning weight was nearly 10 lbs of punch roach.
A big 5 was second but there were lots of 5s and 4s, no shortage of bites, cracking venue. No 8 lb chub either!

Maybe the full moon missed that area

Interesting that one Joffie - I've never heard of the full moon syndrome. Barometric changes yep, but not full moon. I'll keep that one in the locker for future reference and see if it occurs again. Interestingly the guy on the next peg that had a few roach and skimmer was on the CW.

But one of the puzzlers on the sunday match (same as my mystery pm'er) was that fish were moving - why keep moving, and if they are moving, why aint they peckish? - particularly if they've 'been up all night'

Bill - I seem to be scratching my head about so many things lately.........on Sat the guy 2 pegs to my left never used any change bait until 3/4s of the way through the match - he caught on punch. Me? Well I couldnt buy a bite on it - well I did, 2 fish!!! Had to use other baits to catch the loads of silver fish that were in my peg - what's that all about ??? (ps no evidence of w&j in use on either match)

Larry - as above my lips are sealed as to who the mysterious pm'er is

I think it all boils down the mystery of fishing.
We all have assumptions and own little theories, trouble is the fish don't know about 'em.
I used to have a theory about the River Trent; you simply sacked up roach after roach prior to when the river rose after rain.
It's all coincidence, we really know crappity smack all, until some bright crappity smack introduces talking fish

Tench feed in the birmingham area when theres been a full moon, there is one in every peg on the fazeley canal behind the tyburn castle
